Just a question. I have sanded back some of my van. Is it totally necessary to strip it absolutely to the bare wood or can you leave bits of undercoat, as long as it is not flakey or protruding. It is bloody hard to get every little piece off. It could damage wood if you go too far. Many thanks Kev ;D

Hi Kev. As long as the base coat is sound there is no need to sand back to bare timber. Rembering that the base coat has been there for about 40 years so Im sure it will last a lot longer. Dont forget to seal and undercoat and use good quality paint. Cheers. Trodler.

Hi Kev. Forgot to mention that if you are planning to paint your van in acrylic paint (water based) and the original paint is enamel (turpes base) well you cant, as acrylic paint wont stick over enamel. Not unless you use a primer called Bullseye made by Zinzer, which will allow you to then paint anything over this.I think it is about $120 for 4 litres. But if it was me I would just use enamel which will give you a lot better finish. ;D ;D Cheers. Trodler.

Thanks very much Trodler. That's what I thought. I have gotten about 95% or more off. Just little bits of undercoat here and there. Many thanks Kev. ;D ;D
