Hi Team,
can anyone tell me the difference between 5 1/2" and 6" trailer/caravan hubs.
I have hubs that are early holden stud pattern, but in Supa Cheap I see two types of replacement hubs....5 1/2 " and 6", both suitable for HT Holden rims.
I guess if I measure the hubs I have, I can try to buy the same, but I'm left wondering, what's the difference (besides the obvious 1/2".....
cheers....Brad

Hi Brad. If you are looking for info on hubs, brakes, and axles I have used a mob in gosford who supply all the retailers with there stock . All State Trailer Spares & Sales 02 43532224 and they have a very good web site www.astss.com.au . I did a complete electric brake axle for $650.00 delivered to my door. Tickos

Hi JBJ,
yeah I kinda came to the same conclusion....I measured my hubs and found them to be 5 1/2" ones so bought one to match.....I too suspected the larger flange on the 6" hub would be for supporting 14" rims but just wondered if there were another reason....
thanks for your input....good to know we were both thinking along the same lines...
cheers...and Happy Christmas!!

Brad
The 5½ and 6 inch measurement refers to the rim WIDTH The diameter can be whatever.. 13” 14” and so on.
Examples would be,, 5.5x14 JJ 6.0x14 JJ Same wheel but with a ½ inch wider rim.
The change to a wider rim coincides with the change from cross-ply tyres to radial tyres in the mid to late 70’s.
Radials are generally a wider section tyre compared to the cross-ply they replaced, as radials are more easily made with an aspect ratio less than 100% (The width is larger than the height)
Crossply tyres are defined in inches where radial tyres are defined in millimeters.
Rim sizes have stayed in inches as it would be dangerous to have two rim size systems close to each other.

If it is the face of the door that is jamming the hinbes may need adjusting . If it was the edge then you would plane that of. Thicknessing a ply door might not be the right option but get someone who can have a look at it before you start making it small. YOU CAN ALWAYS CUT IT SMALLER BUT IT BLOODY HARD TO CUT IT BIGGER
