Hi All Many of you will have ordered chrome button cupboard catches, bakelite switch plates, or other products from Authentic Lighting and Hardware in Qld. John Paas is good to work with, and still makes products on the original machinery. Noted however on their homepage today 25 Jan 2016: WE WILL KEEP INCREASING OUR PRODUCT RANGE WITH OUR ONLINE SELLING FOR MANY YEARS AND - - HAVE DECIDED TO SELL THE SHOP WITH COTTAGE BEHIND - - - PLUS THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR No.65 To view sales literature - - www.redhillcommercialproperty.com The shop will stay open for many months to come. Not sure what this means - online orders going forward, but no shopfront? Or no presence at all? I think I'll order my bits for the next project to be safe! Cheers Seehell

G'day seashell Thanks for bringing that to our attention. You are referring to Authentic Lighting and Hardware I think who are often recommended in the suppliers list as a place to pick up all sorts of bits for restoration. I hope he is just relocating and the business will continue. Cobber.

Right you are Cobber! I've corrected the post.
Not sure what's going on, but it's still a worry...I have an order to do so I may ask him.
Time for everyone to stock up on cupboard latches.
Cheers Carley

I hope people get a chance to experience John & his lovely wife's shop before it closes. I imagine it's a combination of factors causing the closure. As Rob said, you didn't know you needed something until you walked into his shop. There are far too many things to list on a website. One visit I bought a lovely hand painted lampshade together with NOS brown fabric covered electrical cable, hanging chain, ceiling fitting. Looks just right. We always go there when we go to Brisbane. One visit, we'd been there so long talking to John & his wife, I had to ask to use their bathroom out in back cottage. It was straight out of the late 1890s with no modernising, renovations or 'restoration'. Basically a room with a roll top bath, toilet, hand basin on wall with a few old hooks to hang your towel. Brilliant!

Hi All
The Bakelite side of the business has been transferred to John's son, and will continue online. The lighting shop and sundries will be closing with the sale of the house and shop, and potentially continuing elsewhere or not. John and Janet are semiretired, but may continue the sideline online.
Cheers Seeshell
