You've done a terrific job BlueBird. Really lovely. It's a shame we have to go overseas just to get a decent pattern in canvas/ outdoor materials etc.

Yes it is a shame. I did hear a lot of good things about Marti's Awnings in America and they definitely didn't disappoint. It was so easy to order from them, there was a little bit of a delay due to a backlog of work at the time, but that was OK as I had plenty of time. I couldn't believe just how quickly it arrived from the States. The postage was heaps quicker than Australia Post is most of the time LOL. I highly recommend them

Great van! I love her transformation, well done. I've got my eyes on the bedspread. It's a chenille? The awning is also a perfect match for her. Once again, well done, she is a beauty!

Oh thanks Leonie. I appreciate your lovely comments. Yes the blue bedspread is Vintage Chenille. I got it on eBay. It was a great find as it's basically in brand new condition I used a white quilt cover on my last getaway as I thought the blue was too dark ?? I'm on the lookout for a white one now. Yes I love the awning, I heard a lot of good things about Marti's Awnings in America, so I contacted them and they made it up for me. The postage from America was really quick - I think it only took about 7 days in postage to get to me. The first time I used it I was lucky to have my hubbie help me out and this was only to do some photos for the Vintage Caravan Magazine Calendar, but when I went camping to Shellharbour, my hubbie went to the V8's in Queensland so I was on my own. I was very lucky to have my Dad and a lovely man on the site next to us put it up for me and then take it off. It's definitely not easy to do unfortunately and definitely a two person job. I also love your caravan, it's a perfect little size very cute. Hopefully we'll get to meet in person one day. In the meantime, happy travels in Shirley

Sorry, but what is so special that the annex was made in USA? I must have missed something here, mine was made in Coffs Harbour. Are the US ones different and in what way?
Cheers Rod

Cheers Rod Hi Rod, The "specially made" meant, custom made really. I ordered it to fit my caravan, I chose the colours and detailing around the edging. I did try to get one made up in my area, but I couldn't find anyone that would make one up for me, also I heard a lot of good things about Marti's Awnings in America, so that's why I chose to get one made up overseas. You're lucky that you are able to get one locally. I don't believe there's any difference in the US made ones. Happy travels to you, Monica

Hi everyone, i have been thinking for a while now that BlueBird's wheels were quite ugly and needed prettying up. While Shaun was checking out the wheels last week, he discovered that our wheels were not the right fit for our axle and some silly bugger had made the holes bigger to fit and also that our spare didn't even fit at all!!!! So, we had to find some new wheels and quickly as we are off to Bathurst this weekend. So we were on the hunt and we lucky enough to find a set of 13" Holden wheels and also some Holden hubcaps, but they were in Canberra. So yesterday we made the five hour round trip to pick them up. Here's some photos of them in their "picked up" state. Shaun is now busy getting them ready for new tyres so that they can go onto BlueBird and be ready for our trip to Bathurst on Friday.

I could be wrong but they look like LC Torana rims which I believe are Holden HT stud pattern. They will fit 60's Ambassadors but the thing to watch is that the wheel nuts have the correct pitch on the clamping edge. Nice job on the van. Cheers, Sam

Cheers, Sam Hi Sam, Yes you are right, they are LC/LJ Torana Rims. We have tried him on the van and they definitely are the correct stud pattern. Hubby says that the wheel nuts are all good. Thanks for your message and compliments on BlueBird. Monica

Hi Bluebird She's a very pretty van - lovely renovation and restoration done. Just about the wheels, check in your state. Recently it became illegal to "whitewall" wheels in Victoria, and you can get pulled off the road and ticketed for it. Not sure about other states. If you need whitewall truck tyres, you might try www.dbtires.com - in the USA, but do white wall truck tires. There may also be local providers, but the usual suspects (Antique Tyres in Melbourne) don't have any. Cheers Seeshell
