I'm just wondering if there would be any demand for reproduction portholes?

G'day Greggy, i have been trying to locate a porthole for my van just in case i make up my mind to fit one, but,i don't know if this would be a good idea. My van is very original and i am a bit reluctant to modify it. I would still be interested to find out what a porthole would be worth though. Regards Bill

retro and bill I was asking the question, as I was contemplating some "very" minor damage some idiot inflicted on mine, on my carapark, and was wondering to myself if I could have made a replacement if I needed too. Mine seem to be the same as yours, but one opens up and has a fly screen.I know carapark marketed them in their parts catalogue of 1955. I thought I would try to spinning up a few and will let you know how I get on!
Cheers Greggy

Col Paterson at T G Paterson told me they made fixed portholes for caravans, which were a big seller until someone else ripped off the design and made opening ones.
Overnight the bottom went out of the fixed-porthole market and his dad got left with heaps of them (now sadly gone to the dump). Col remembers portholes lying around the factory and as a kid getting in trouble for playing frisbees with them.
They also made stove flues with a little "chinamans hat" on top, which I suspect is the picture to the side of the porthole on the ad above.
