Gday G&S.A real good start would be to sand the steel work - axle/springs/'A' frame either by wire wheel or by hand.A gal coat and/or but not neccessarily followed by a quality top coat. A lot of folk just sand & gal silver over.Nothing wrong with painting the under floor. In our Technical section > Parts Suppliers/Information < you`ll find methods/products that might assist your needs.

Hi, on the vans I restore I wire brush underneath with a wire brush attachment for a 4 inch grinder then spray with auto body deadener. I use about 5 x 400g cans.

I used a commercial guy who glass blasted the chassis & sprayed it with a two pack, its almost impossible to get into the corners manually.

Thanks for everyone's reply and advice The body of the van is still on the frame. I started using a wire brush wheel and after an hour I thought I'd get a quote on sandblasting , the quote come to $370 which included jacking up the caravan, masking up around the bottom of the can and taking off the wheels and sandblasting
Doing it myself I definitely wouldn't be able to get into every little crack, so I'd have to be happy with an 80% job and spray over loose rust. I'd be spending about $60 on the wired brush wheels Sand blasting will give me a better result so I ll probably go the sandblasting
Mustang I like the look of the bottom of your caravan

Wow $370 I couldn't get it out of my pocket quick enough! Ours was $400 to glass blast & 300 to paint.

$370 is a great price. We have just finished grinding all of the rust from our chassis and draw bar. We had to replace some spongy floor so while the floor was off we took the opportunity to do the chassis. We used a drill with wire brush attachments an angle grinder with wire brush and a dremel to get into the hard to reach spots. It was alot of work and being stuck under the van for long periods was not the greatest. Wish I could find someone who would have done it for that price. ?

If it helps you any, I had my blasting done up in Shepparton where the caravan is situated. The guy charges $200 an hour.

We had our Ambassador undercarriage sandblasted, primed, and topcoated in hammertone by Daryl Swain, Shady Creek, Vic 3821. Can't remember the exact price, a bit more than $370, but not much more. Cheers, Sam
