Hi folks, I've also posted in the classic forum, so my apologies for the double up. I'm after a sheet of 'log cabin' profile cladding for my valiant- like this. The section in front of the door is beyond my panel beating abilities, but just looks too bad to leave I feel. I know its a long shot, but would anyone know where I could source a sheet, or have some going to waste in your backyard? Im in victoria. Cheers! M

Gday Maddie. I think you might be in for a long wait unless you peruse the usual 'for sales/wrecking' ads.Perhaps a second hand caravan yard? On its own (if removed) the sheeting is rather flimsy to try anything so wouldn`t really try anyways. But who knows perhaps some one might have an off-cut.

Hi Maddie,
If you really want to fix it and still can't find a suitable piece to replace it, you could take a fiberglass mould off an undamaged section of the van. From that you could make your own fiberglass replacement panels.
Cheers Greg

Thanks guys- nice idea Greg! I know its a long shot, a donor van is probably the only solution, and I think I'm unlikely to go down that path, so I'll just have to love her lumps and all :-)
Appreciate your input. Cheers

Hi Maddie
If the sheet is not a huge length say 2400mm or shorter it should be able to be folded in a folder you will have to paint it the right colour as the Viscount colour is not available from stock we have done this a number of times and people have not picked that the sheet has been fabricated only point is it gets costly due to the amount of time it takes and it takes two people to fold it. Regards Gerald

Gday Overlanda. The section (or for that matter, the entire cladding) is a scalloped profile as per Maddies pic which can`t be replicated by folding.Would be great if it could be.

I will measure one of the Viscounts in the yard and bend a section but there is not much to prove after doing it since 1975. I will do this in the later half of the week ,as i have other items to attend to on Monday and Tuesday. Regards Gerald

Hi all,
Thought I would share my latest efforts on the van with you, as I'm pretty happy with the results! I think we ended up going through the same process as you were describing Gerald. My dad- also a clever man- thought that if we started with a plain flat sheet of aluminium, it might be possible to recreate the cladding by asking the metal workers to put a series of slight folds of about 10 degrees in the sheet, thus when you 'unroll' it, it forms the bulging needed to create the log cabin look. Turns out, it worked!! Amazingly well. Cost about $60 (we didn't do the folding ourselves). I'll put some pictures on the internet somewhere and link them here when I have.
Cheers, Maddie

Well done Gerald.I`m pleased to see your finished sample.Knew you could do it.So do i still stand behind my first remark? Yep.Reason being its not a hard job to do as you`ve shown in your pics & as Maddie pointed out also. The problem being too many repairers charge like wounded bulls to take a sheet of thin ali, mark some lines & bend incremental degrees.I think you even mention that it gets costly.Better to hunt some one away than hear they`ve been ripped off.Anyhow Maddie got charged a realistic price & we all got to see that a flat sheet can be curved in a folder. Just retired after 50 years in the auto game, coach builder from 1966/detailer. Well so much to do & so much free time.

In reply to DC3Td the retail price of a sheet of 2400 mm x 1200 mm x .06 mm CP 48 white caravan cladding is $ 187.95 including GST while the list price for a similar sized sheet in the pattern to suit a Coramal is $ 242.55 inlcluding GST to buy a flat sheet of ali in white .06mm is very similar in price and than if some one has to bend it and whatever he has to be payed for his time and to run a small work shop in the country it will cost around $ 90.00 to a $ 100.00 per hour so the cost can soon ad up. As a example we are rebuilding a 14 feet Vacation caravan for a client at the moment and by the time it is ready for use there will be not much change out of $ 23000.00 . I will arrange to get some photos and a short story soon. Regards Gerald

Hello Maddie, I have a Viscount van, looks like yours, about 14' long has no floor or interior, just windows, I think it has an orange stripe, it's yours if you want it. Cheers Peter.
