Hi, can anyone tell me where I can find the chassis numbers. By the photos I have my van looks to be a 1970 Franklin Regent.

G'day Leowish, Congratulations on the van you've acquired, and welcome to the forum. You should be able to find the serial number for your van on the A-frame in the form of some welded numbers. The number will most likely be three or four numbers, followed by a dash, followed by another number. The last number after the dash should tell you the year it was built. So if your van is a 1970 model, the last number will be '0'. The three or four numbers in front of the dash indicate the number of the van built in the given year. The number will most likely be on top of the right hand beam of the A-frame (looking from the coupling back). You can see an example from Dayno's Franklin by clicking here (second photo). However it is possible that the serial number will be on the side of the beam, or maybe even underneath. It is also possible that, if the A-frame has been painted a good few times, the number may be hidden under the layers of paint and you will need to wirebrush the A-frame to discover it. The Regent model was introduced in 1968 and was continued into the early 1970's. I may be telling you stuff you already know or have found on the forum. However, if you haven't already discovered it, there are three threads on Franklin caravans and Franklin serial numbers in the 'Down History Lane' section of the forum, which include photos and articles about various Regent models. Just go to the index at the top of the Down History Lane section and click on the Franklin links. There is also some information about Franklin caravans and the Regent model on the Classic Caravans forum, which focuses on caravans built between 1970 and 1979, and you can find that by clicking here (scan down the thread towards the end or maybe page 2). Hope that helps. Let us know when you find the serial number of your van - we'll be really interested to hear. Don Ricardo PS Dawso - sorry I didn't see your post providing the same info about the serial numbers until after I posted this, which I started last night but didn't finish until this morning.

Thanks Dawso, and Don I really appreciate the time and detail I finally got the van home. I still can't find the chassis number and the reason being it looks like a section of the drawbar was replaced so I'd say the number is gone forever. I'm now looking for suppliers for parts like window clips a seals so if anyone knows of suppliers that would be a great help

Hi Leowish,
Don't despair about losing the serial number just quite yet. It is not uncommon to find the serial number written in pencil in places such us under or in drawers, cupboards, wardrobes, etc, even in vans which were produced on assembly lines. I guess the purpose was to enable the workers to match bits together, and/or to match the van to the specifications requested by the buyer, etc. It is also not unknown to find a date written somewhere, which is also great.
Anyway, when you get a chance start having a looking in various nooks and crannies in your van. Maybe you won't find anything, but then maybe you might. Good luck with your search.

My Franklin had its number on the front of the table where it fits into the slot at the front of the van. Most Franklins also appear to have a number written in marker pen on the back of the fridge. I think that this number might finish with the installation date but this is just a unproven theory. Koala

I have just purchased a Franklin pop top van that I am restoring. The rego papers say 1979 but the chassis no is 3-230-4. Would this be a 1979 model or earlier?
