Hey folks,
I posted on here nearly six years ago about our family's Mintern expandavan. the post is still there, but aside from a few photos Don Ricardo reported, the images have disappeared, so I'll repost them below tomorrow. At the time I decided to give restoring it a crack, replacing some of the rotting timber etc. but after going back to work full time, and realising the amount of work that needed to be done it has sat there for the past few years like a monument to my failure.
We absolutely love the van, partly for its great design, and party because it's been in the family for over 40 years and until my dad passed away it went on nearly every holiday we took. We had been in conversations with a caravan repair place about the possibility of having it professionally repaired/rebuilt it, and saved up to get it done, but they have since advised us that it's not a job they are willing to take on.
So now we're left with a vintage van we love and can't bear to get rid of which isn't in a usable state, some money saved up to do something about it, but no one with the time or know how to actually restore/rebuild it.
Anyone interested in taking it on as a project, or know someone who would be? We'd obviously pay for time, materials transport etc. Its located in Balwyn North, Victoria.
Look forward to hearing from someone.

Some of the work I did back in '09 The lino has been pulled up, cupboard doors all removed, a bunch of plywood at the front and rear replaced, but knowing my skills that may need to be redone anyway.

As an idea , Have you thought of approaching the local mens shed ?
My father is in one and they do all kinds of 'stuff' - from handyman to cleaning ....As you may be aware some of the old boys have a certain skillset and the time to do 'stuff' .
I'm sure they'll work for tea n biscuits , but a donation to their cause or nominated charity might get the project rolling .

Good suggestion Rex. I know a couple of blokes in the process of setting up a men's shed, so I'll have a chat to them. we've got enough saved up to buy a few vintage vans, so they'll have a lifetime supply of cream assortments! I get the impression they're more interested in smaller jobs than this, but won't hurt to ask... Boblor, Any idea where I'm likely to find the chassis number? I'll trade it to you for the name of someone who might be interested in the job.

I asked at a local hardware & was given the name of a retired builder. He has since helped me restore two vans! There are a couple of handymen in our town who do lots of little jobs for people too, (Although they weren't interested in my van at the time). Maybe even try ringing a few cabinetmakers. The mens shed is a very good starting point, lots of different skills all in the one place
