Cooly Rocks On organizers are expanding South of the Border! They are organizing the first Murwillumbah Motorfest & Swap to be held over 3 days on 5,6,7 December. coolyrockson.mybigcommerce.com/shannons-murwillumbah-motorfest-and-swap/The event will be mainly located in Murwillumbah Showground which is a large area within walking distance of the town & our great long Main St (yes seriously!). The Showground has sensational views to the cane fields, & mountains including Mt Warning. They plan this event to be a car festival for pre1985 vehicles & featuring 1970's & 1980's era. The event will include show n shine of pre-1985 cars, a swap meet, evening car cruises (down Main St?), & music & dancing from 1970's & 1980's & memorabilia displays of all things nostalgic including design, fashion, music etc. I contacted Bob the organiser & he is Very Keen to have a group of us there camping in the Showground in our vintage caravans. Don't think he cares what vintage as long as they look pre-1980's! Camping cost is $20/night for 2 people in a powered site. He wants to keep us separate from the Winnebagoes camping elsewhere in the Showground so he will give us a separate area. So can people let me know if they are interested in this event asap? Bob the organiser obviously would like us to provide a Vintage Van Display. I would have to know numbers soon to keep negotiating with Bob re the area we would get as our spot & whether everyone is agreeable to provide a 'Display'! smiles

Hi all
Seems like camping at this event may not be a go now.
apparently a local caravan park (which is mainly permanents) has complained to Council so the Event organiser is unsure whether the local Council will give permission for camping in the Showground.
He is still trying to convince Council staff about camping but basically he said 'don't hold your breath'. They would allow us to park our vans but we couldn't stay there at night with them. I'm sure most people wouldn't leave their vans unattended at night in case they got van-dalised!
So I'll leave the thread up in case things change. Bob, the Cooley Rocks On organiser says he will definitely get camping allowed for next years event, so sorry folks, we might have to wait till next year for this one!

Hi all
I spoke to organiser on weekend & he's got permission from Council for vintage caravan camping at event. So VV campers will be the only campers there. Nice cool shady spot under the large camphor laurels which are near the showers & toilets. Terry Knight is phoning the event office today to get final pricing & will post the prices. I'm just giving this a bump!

Hi all, anyone wishing to participate in the event can book by ringing Tess Easton on 0755992081. The gates will be open from midday on Friday 5th December. You can see what's happening by checking out the Cooley Rocks On website. You can choose what you want to participate in and do as much as you wish. The basic fee is $40 for 2 nights camping (includes weekend entry for 1 person). Weekend partner entry is $15. My understanding is the camping fee is going to the Show Society towards facility and ground maintenance. The organizer has mentioned judging for the vans and we may need to find a volunteer with a sound knowledge of the vans to assist his judges. If you are interested please contact Tess with your van and annexe size so they can make sure we have enough room set aside cheers Terry Knight

Hi all
If you're thinking of booking for this event, leave it till Tuesday am when Tess will be back.
Just spoke to Bob the organiser & he says 23 or 24 vans have booked in now, with lots of people booking in for the Swap Meet, so should be a great event!
Not to forget the AC/DC tribute concert on Saturday night!

Hi Stephen&julie, Looks like vintage caravanning is looking to become an "Olympic event"! The next Olympics is in Rio de Janeiro. No doubt you'll need to do some fundraising to get the team to the games. It's too far to float... Seriously, the photos are great. Good on you all. No wonder Boblor is looking as pleased as punch. As Jacqui & Bob said, it may have rained but what a great weekend with such great people!
On the Saturday afternoon we all got together for afternoon tea to say a huge THANKS to BOB (boblor) for being who he is, for being part of our lives and for showing and sharing the wonderful enthusiasm he has for Olympic caravans and vintage caravanning.
Many people spoke about what Bob has meant to them whether they've known him for a short time or a long time. Bob & Jacqui brought along cakes and presented Bob with a travelling mug marked with Olympic Guru and a wonderful coffee table book of photos of all the Vintage Van/SEQ mob who have been part of Bob's family for the last half-dozen years or so. We were all touched and so was Bob.
And yes, those Olympic bottoms didn't get lined up like that by accident! Boblor arrived an hour early before the start of the event, with a spray can & marked out the sites so all the vans were beautifully spaced.
Thanks Boblor for being Mr Olympic, and thanks Bob & Jacqui and everyone else for being such great friends!

Hi- To all my VV friends Well what a wonderful w/e we all had, regardless of the weather. It would rate as one of the best VV social events I have attended, - not because it was Olympic dominated, but for the happy atmosphere that it created. Now I did not know that we had ASIO working within the VV movement, but after being presented with my coffee table book/album, I found that I had been tracked for some years. What a wonderful surprise for me for my VV Family to go to extent that they did, - and all behind my back. I am just an ordinary bloke who has a passion for some things in life, and what ever that may be I study it so that I fully understand it and pass any info to those who may seek advice. Almost all in attendance blamed me for their involment in vintage caravanning, I felt very touched by this, and hope to continue for little longer. Where ever I am with my Olympic 'Contessa' travelling around this country of ours, I will have my treasured coffee table book will be with me. So do not be affraid to ask for a look and you will be as surprised as i was to receive it. Assuming this event will be on next year, I suggest that you VV put it on you calendar, because the grounds and facilities are great and we could atleast double the numbers attending. There is some talk it may move to another month,- so keep tuned. Once again thanks for honouring me the way you ALL went about it. I undrestand others wished to be present but were not able for various reasons, so I say a very big thankyou to you also for your thoughts. I should congratulate Roger Horn and Jan for winning the "Best Caravan Trophy' with their beautiful 1964 Olympic 'Riviera'. Cheers boblor
