Hiya Greeny Great minds think alike.. Had been thinking the same thing over Christmas.... where to in the new year?? While I was at Coledale beach vint van weekend back in October I got yarning with the Tickos ... John and Lynelle. Lynelles bro lives/manages on-site at Koala Park Munmorah Lynelle mentioned that there is a likelihood that we will be able to have a vint van get together again this year. There has been issues in the past with the local council and the number of vans allowed on the powered sites at Munmorah, Not entirely sure that the rules have been relaxed a bit ... or whether the issue has gone "off the boil" with the council. I will check and see If it is OK to head back in there. My thoughts where to marry up a weekend there with one of the open days at the "Lost in the 50s"car and nostalgia museum at Cameron Park... about 1/2Hr up the expressway from Munmorah. The owns only have about 4 open days a year and then they limit the attendance to no more than 200 people, You can buy lunch there etc, etc .. so would be a great Sunday out before heading home ... Maybe able to cordon off an area to display our vans in the car park .. or along the street outside the museum??? Anyway ... getting a bit ahead of myself here... Traditionally we had a Munmorah weekend the weekend after mothers day. With the Vint Van Nats on in early may this year I would imagine attendees would be "burnt out" from travelling and not too keen on piling back into the car and van and travelling anywhere in May. Soooo... I will chase the mangers of "Lost in the 50s" and see if they have an open day in June/July??..Might be able to tie a Christmas in July at Munmorah and the museum tour in together...Or possibly a 3 dayer over the June long weekend. Again getting ahead of myself here... Anyway The Greens thanks for the "Push".. we will wait and see if anyone else here on the forum replies with an "Expression of interest " in our plans ;D Cheers fa now.. The forever optimistic Reddo

Hi Guys,
We would probably be up for a local run. anywhere between nelson bay and woy woy, this is where we usually do our weekend trips.
Reddo, my office is about 200m from the lost in the 50's display thing at cameron park, but you are not far away either, they had several bus loads there just before christmas.
i will stay tuned and see what happens in this thread.
Cheers

;D ;D ;D ;D Hi Here is a link to "Lost in the 50's" Museum... I had a bit of a browse.....They have a list of open day dates... 27th July might be the go... although I am not sure if their website is updated?? these dates might still be 2013?? I'll give em a call and confirm the dates and get back to you guys.. I am sure there will be others that might take an interest in a Munmorah/museum/Christamas in july weekend ... but they are probably still holidaying on the Christmas break. Also thought about having another weekend camp up at East Gresford campng ground ..... although we did have a bit of trouble with some of our southern friends from down Sydney way getting a bit "wayward" on the run back from Dungog on the Saturday and finding their way into a few local wineries... came home just before dark with the cars loaded up with bottles of local plonk...all full of singsong and giggling ;D ;D ;D.... But HEY,,, that's what the Hunter Valley is all about www.caravanparkphotos.com.au/gresford/or maybe Lostock Dam around September ... They have a great January long weekend out there with country music all weekend. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEMrZLUSl0cCheers fa now Reddo

Hi Reddo,
Sounds good. We went to Lostock about 4 years ago when we had the tent and the boat.
The issue we have now is we only have 240v in the van, no gas or 12v.
When we built the van, we decided we were done with non powered sites, so that's why none of the other stuff went back in.
Anyway, see what comes of it all.
Cheers

HAPPY NEW YEAR THE IDEA OF COMBINING KOALA PARK/LOST IN THE 50'S INTO ONE WEEKEND SOUND LIKE A WINNER. A GREAT WAY FOR PEOPLE TO GET TO THIS MUSEUM FOR A LOOKY-SEE , WITH CHEAP ACCOMADATION NEAR BY . THE IDEA OF STAYING OVER ON THE SUNDAY NIGHT ALSO AND HEADING HOME MONDAY MORNING MIGHT BE A BETTER OPTION . ALSO KEEN TO GO BACK TO GRESFORD AGAIN. LAST TIME WAS A GREAT WEEKEND GETAWAY AND WE ALSO JAGGED THE LOCAL MARKETS ON SUNDAY MORNING ON THE OLD HOSPITAL GROUNDS. A DAY TRIP TO THE NEARBY HISTORICAL TOWN OF MORPETH AND LUNCH AT THE HINTON PUB ON THE SUNDAY MIGHT BE GOOD WAY TO SPEND A DAY. A BEAUTIFUL PART OF THE WORLD . HEADING HOME MONDAY MORNING AFTER THE TRAFFIC MIGHT BE THE GO ALSO ON THIS WEEKEND . COUNT ME AND KATE IN FOR BOTH THESE WEEKENDS. WE ARE JUST ABOUT KID FREE THESE DAYS ! ;D JUST ABOUT ! ;D 8-)MAURIE

Hi all You can rub Koala Park Munmorah off any plans for weekends away........ I rang the caretaker ( John ) today and the power station has been sold off to private enterprise... bloody gummemnet... bloody Chinese... John has to be out by march and the only events that will be allowed there is 1 dayers... no camping/ caravanning overnight. Bloody shame.. a great little spot that we have had a lot of good weekends at So... its back to the drawing board. There is old mate at Ryhope with all the military gear and a big yard but he is not really geared up for a stack of caravans on his lawns .. also very close to highway and noisey at night. Soooooo... we will leave Gresford as an alternative for a weekend away in the second half of the year...and keep searching for another location within easy drive of "lost in the 50s" museum Don't really want to go back to Canton Beach.. we where scattered all through the park and under constant surveillance from the permanents in the park when we stayed there.... Cheers fa now Reddo

Nice drive to Lost in the 50s and all important dish licker friendly.Have good memories of there watching final tuning on billy carts before the Coledale Derby.

Nice drive to Lost in the 50s and all important dish licker friendly.Have good memories of there watching final tuning on billy carts before the Coledale Derby. Yep.. I remember the park and the words that started all the Billy cart argey bargey..... Spoken by "Sugarshack " from the Ford billy cart racing team... I was sitting there enjoying a quiet beer.... is there ever such a thing on a tour ?? Went something like... "TREVOR SAYS YOUR YELLA"...... Twas enough to drag the team scapmetal coledale special out of the ute and set about demoralizing poor old Wayne... and Trevor the spaniel !!! Mate there is a few good parks around the lake.. Belmont Pines on the pointis probably better ( water on 3 sides of your camp site) than Wangi Wangi park straight across the lake. Be nice to be able to have a campfire... but June /July on the edge of the lake is still quite mild compared to Katoomba and Blackheath. Leave it with me and I will have a yarn with the park manager....get a group booking price .... try and work it so we dodge the school holidays . Can anyone that hasn't already expressed interest ......or...is even half interested in having a weekend at Belmont with a cruise ( in your car.. not a bloody boat) around the lake on sunday morn to the lost in the 50s museum please let us know here on this thread... No point in talking to the park manager and saying we will have a dozen sites when only a handful want to go !!! Cheers fa now.. Reddo

I was invited on Facebook by a fellow Holden EJ/EH Holden Ute owner to attend the Can Cruise in Mudgee NSW to raise funds for the local Cancer support Group. This is the 6th annual cruise. I headed off from Sydney Friday morning. I found this Carapark? tucked in behind some trees on the road into Mudgee. I left a note in his letterbox. I camped for two nights in the beautiful Riverside Caravan Park in Mudgee Parked my team in the back car park for the show n shine Saturday morning but a friend of mine took this nice shot. A nice wide view shot of all of we "cruisers" at one of the wineries we visited. Spotted this over a fence on the way home from Mudgee.

Hi Aquamum Thanks for posting the photos of your Mudgee trip.. This is what its all about aye??? Glad to see you doing your bit for vintage vanning and the cancer group appeal. Your rig looks cool .. and you would be surprised by the number of people who would have spotted it in the backblocks at the show . Doesn't have to be shiney to be a show stopper aye Love the old removalists pantech... I see that sorta thing being a natural progression for me from vintage caravanning to vintage motorhoming Havent forgotten about a weekend at Gresford .. I will wait till everyone recovers from the trek out to Broken Hill for that Vintage van nats and the "Tour De Alps" around the Snowys before suggesting anything for the second half of the year in mid NSW.... Keep on Vannin Reddo

I agree Reddo
I've been watching George Clarke's small spaces and could see how I could renovate that moving van.
Glenfell sounds great - is that before or after Xmas in July at SW Rocks NSW?

I agree Reddo I've been watching George Clarke's small spaces and could see how I could renovate that moving van. Glenfell sounds great - is that before or after Xmas in July at SW Rocks NSW? Hi Sandra Forget about spending your money on renovating a removilsts van.... You are gunna have to get your compass fixed first !!!!!! That's "Gresford " we will be heading for..... not Grenfell.... although.... the vintage caravan mob have stayed at Grenfell . It was back in 2006 on our way to the first www.vintagecaravans.com nationals at Morgan .S.A. Me and son Joel, Cobber and Yvonne, Will and Lyn, Dennis and Sue stayed there. I am sure you knew where you meant .....hope you don't mind me having a bit of fun with the comment?? Yup.... Gresford will be after Xmas in July at South West Rocks..Probably around late August /early September. Cool nights, and The camping reserve has a few fire pits ...... Combine the warmth of the fire with a good bottle of Hunter Valley Red and all will be happy campers.... or... Glampers. Regards Reddo
