Thanks for the encouragement! The story of our interst in VCing is as follows: We bought a modern poptop about 3 years ago but never took further than the trip across our small home town of Ardrossan on the Yorke Peninsula, SA.! We have a Commodore wagon as the everyday car but we have an interrst in older cars, so there is an MGB, curently being resprayed, the 1963 Alvis in the picture and a 1951 Alvis convertable.
I had seen the vintage van site and even posted some pics of a friend's Valiant with a Zestliner? off to Mark T, who I have to say gave us a great reception.
Last August, the lady who sold us the modern van asked if we wanted to sell it back, so for the same money, we did the deal. Then the trouble started as we acquired a dog three days later! This looked to bugger up our plans for trips away in the old cars. In the pub a night or so later, a feloow ambo got talking about the old bondwood van his family still had in Woodville, Adelaide. My ears picked up and a week or so later, we viewed the van which had been in a carport for 18 years. Tt was called a Broadway and they thought it had been made in Whyalla. The good thing about it was that it had not been "uprated", so we took some pics, and said we would buy it. It has the icebox and the canvas stretcher bed above a single bed. There was an old water tank perched on the sink. We got two wheels and tyres, checked the bearings and a week later towed it home.
The canvas roof was shot and a few seems cracked. I have sprayed the inside and that looks half decent, but the outside has been rubbed down and brush painted. We got new curtains run up and a local firm gave me some stainless steel for the front and the work tops. $160 got me the canvas which I proofed with some jollop. New lamps and it was legal. It even came with the old rego document.
We took a car to the Power of the Past show in Mt Barker and there was chap called Ray Mossop there with a replica tear drop, pulled by a 57 Holden Ute,all sign written with Broadway Caravans. It turned out that Ray Mossp's father had built our little van in Adelaide.
Ray saw our van at a Wooden and Classic Boat Show recently and made an offer for it, which basically covers my costs, but we had three great days in the van and with the dog,it makes a good way of getting the old car to shows. For what I would get for it, I would be hard pushed to get another good example, although it would be nice to see the Broadway go home to its original family.
Anyway, we decided to book for Morgan and look forward to seeing a lot of folk there. The van is bright and needs another coat of paint, plus there's a bit more work to do,but our intention is to have some VC fun! Mike O

Hi Mike, Would love to see the inside of that Broadway van. It looks very similar in shape to the one i just acquired. Mine was believed to be a Rowvan but has since been discredited. So i am looking at all similar shaped bond wood vans from the era. You could email me a few shots if you have time. I would be most grateful... shepsbuildingservices@gmail.com Looks like you have made a crackin job of restoring the old girl....
