From The Horsham Times, Tuesday 11 March 1947CARAVAN DESTROYED BY FIRE Holiday Trip Misadventure Cruel misfortune befel Mr. Artie Wood, well known Horsham business man and sportsman when on Saturday morning his caravan was destroyed by fire. Mr. Wood had just set out from Horsham on a motoring holiday with a trip around the coast to N.S.W. as part of the program. When near Deep Lead, he was frantically hailed by a motorist travelling in the same direction, who had noticed that the caravan being towed by Mr. Wood's car was on fire. The motorists were able to detach the caravan from the car, but only just in time, for the flames had such a grip that nothing could be saved from the trailer which was completely destroyed. As the holiday was to last some weeks, Mr. and Mrs. Wood had considerable amounts of clothing and personal possessions in the caravan, which itself was fitted with new beds, wireless, icechest and every convenience. Mr. Wood estimates his loss, at about £500, half of which was covered by insurance. The cause of the fire is not known although some electrical fault of the lighting or radio is suspected.
