I am with Will............ that is one radical rod. Now to get the sunliner behind........... what an awsome rig it will make. In fact all 3 will turn heads where ever they go. I will have to give Suzie some decorating tips heh?

Hi Jailbarjuice, I drove a jailbar daily for 7 years [fitted with jap diesel though ] & I'm working on another one now, 460ci powered...but all other jailbars pale into insignificance compared to that mighty metalflake monster you own!! that thing's "the dogs bollocks" mate...I luv it! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

It is a nickname for certain old Ford trucks, because the grill consisted of vertical bars, just like JAILBARS. Although in this country they should probably be called GAOLBARS.

Just as an aside the "waterfall" originally referred to the 41 - 45 chev grill which did indeed look like a waterfall. These trucks were also known as the "art deco" series. They were an advance as far as apearance was concerned. but were pigs to drive and maintain. The 46-52 (or was it 54) series were brilliant trucks. Comfortable to drive, powerful and sturdy.
As you can tell I am a chev man from way back.

G'Day John
thought I might throw my two bobs worth in on Jailbars/Waterfalls.
I had a 1942 Chev 1 1/2 truck a few years back. As I explained to Dennis the other week it was strange mix. It had the Australian body which had the kick open air vents in the lower part of the cab but had the wind out windscreen as fitted to the lend lease American bodied trucks.
I restored it to the stage of getting the motor rebuilt (216c.i six) the cab repaired and painted cream with light brown gaurds and i fitted a new timber flatbed with oregon headboards. All that was needed to finish off was the interior and overhaul the brakes.
As my no:1 hobby is vintage bikes I sold the truck to 2 blokes from Woolongong for $2800 about 3 years ago. end result was I now have 5 old motorbikes taking up the space where the truck use to sit.
As JailbarJuice has mentioned elsewhere on this list I seem to get as much enjoyment out of restoring things and seeing another relic back on the road being used . As i do actually owning it and using it myself.
I dont mind someone else taking the credit for the resto as long as they keep it on the road and out of a museum /shed.
Ridden or driven.... not hidden I say. Restos over the years have been FC Sedan ....FJ Van. ..Austin A30 Van... Eh Prem Sedan and Wagon ( now with Humpty dumpty).... EK Van with sedan tailights ... RS 2000 Escort.....250 cc BSA.... 1924 Waratah m/c...... at least 5 Norton Commando M/c.... 1936 norton Army m/c..... 1953 Norton ES2 m/c.......... 1934 BSA with hand gearchange m/c......... Circa 1940 -16ft Kuiri pine launch with Blaxland twin inboard motor.... Circa 1950 12 ft launch with simplex single inboard........ an of course the 50s ply van "Just Cruizn"
In my spare time ........ I drink and enjoy beach/rockfishin'
