Great Job Retro Seems a pity to paint it. How cool would it look if you just "cleared" the ply or maybe French polished it ......naaaa guess not. Like everyone else has said you are an inspiration for all of us. You certainly don't tackle jobs in half measures. and staying keen and enthusiastic once ya start a project is the secret to success. Money and Knowhow help a lot too!!!!! Is the waterproof stuff you painted the van with called "Emerclad". This stuff is used on corragated iron roofs. it was also used on the "Tangara " train project back in the 80s here in NSW. They painted the sponge on the train seats before covering them with material. The reason for this was that besides being water resistant Emerclad is also very fire resistant. The stuff has a strong ammonia smell about it and i can remember coming home from work with a sore throat on many occasssions. No , I didn't drink the stuff , but even when wearing a mask the fumes still got to ya by the end of the day. Secondly if you are still chasing moon caps then try Castlemaine Rod and Custom Shop in VIC. I seem to remember them advertising them on thier website. The van will look cool behind the PT. top stuff!!! Reddo

Thanks for your comments. The stuff is not what you said but a waterbased product.

Hi Gemma This is not my retro1 page as you probably know but I am answering your question regarding the waterproofing. The product is called GRIPSET RD and GP multi purpose weatherproof liquid and primer. It is for outdoor and UV exposed areas. I bought it at Bunnings. Some of the features are flexible and elastomeric, resistant to fungi, weatherproof and non toxic. There is a website for this product: www.gripset.com maybe a visit to this may give you further info. I hope this is of help to you and I wish you luck. Make sure you prime the van first and follow the instructions as per the product. Top coat can only be done in water based paints. Love what you are doing with your van. The idea of an outside kitchen was well thought out. Keep up the good work as it is good to see that someone else has more time on their hands than they should. Obviously other areas are suffering as a result..........................ha ha ha. How tall is your lawn these days?
