Yo
After much nagging and hen pecking from SWMBO I
Went and had a look at what was described as
" Henderson Plywood 1950 Caravan - $500" yesterday morning. It was in last weeks local trader.
Measures 16' X 6'6"
Was kept in a barn at Bulwarra then recently purchased and moved to Woodville about 15 mins from Bulwarra. Looks like it was well used before being stored at Bulwarra. New owners son had intentions of doing it up while living in it....... ... mind boggles.. paint fumes, saw dust , sleeping with power tools, leads and glues etc.
, He has now lost interest.
He managed to set a few poles in the ground to build a caraport. ( well at least he started out on the right foot )
Has canvas roof in poor to fair condition . i feel the ply on the roof would probably be OK with a good sand back and paint but dont quote me on that as there is always hidden problems with rot once you start a resto.
. Paint is flaking from exterior but timber seems good and would benifit from a few good coats of primer sealer.. three windows completely void of glass.Frames are reasonable and should not be too hard to reglaze . the rest of the glass is painted white and or cracked.
Interior is good to maybe very good . No cushions. all cupboards are clear varnish over timber doors. a lot of overhead cupboards and a double wardrobe on the left side. Still has old stove in stove compartment. Ice chest etc.
2 hinge open portholes . one in door, one in rhs. Table is laying outside . a solid structure not dissimilar to a dunny door with yellow laminex. Can be seen in picture laying against draw bar.
Tow coupling is the old bolt through coupling style. Looks to be approx 60mm definitely bigger than a standard 2" or 1 7/8" coupling.
Solid chassis with a placard "Henderson Chassis - Comby st, Alexandria Sydney.
Wheels are 15" 5 stud with 2 3/4" between bolt centres. tyres will need replacing to tow it.. better to tilt tray it.
I took about 12 pix but unfortunatley photobucket and my computer are fighting with each other at the moment . Here is one pix . i will post more when electronic gadgets start talking to each other again.
Definitley a rescue and restore proposition ... Not for me as i already have 5 vans in the yard and another one came home yesterday arvo around 3.00pm. more about that on another thread later.
The lady is asking $500 . I quizzed her about accepting less. She said $450. I feel that this could be reduced with a bit of negotiation. I reckon it is similar to Davids ( from QLD ) big timber van that i seen at Esk 2006 and wintersun 2007. Difference being the woodville van has 2 front windows where davids has one smaller window.
Any one interested in address and contact phone number can pm me. Stay tuned for more photos soon..... hopefully.
