Dear Don, Atog, Cobber, Thanks SO much for the feedback fellas! (Love the Scottish metaphor!) I think once I clean up the van (haven't even done that as yet) and put the new lino in I'm almost set. What do you reckon, curtains, venetians or both? And how best to tackle the rust? I see many of you have fabulous old tow cars so that is another goal. I believe glass avns are quite light to tow - is that right? What is the standard weight of today's van compared to the sunliner? Anyone know? The original brochure has a VW towing it but surely that's taking the &*%$. Dorian PS Have a squiz at my travel feature in today's (Saturday's) Melb Age/Sydney Morning Herald - might get a laugh..

Hi Exocet,
Frustrating about the van in the paddock. There is a similar story like that in Umina near me. It too will rot for no reason methinks.

PS The kitchen cushions are reversible by the way - blue like the bed/settee. A couple of buttons missing - that's all. dorian

Cheers atog/humpty, I'm not far from you (humpty) methinks. Here in God's Waiting Room (aka NSW Central Coast). Think I may have seen your fabulous sunliner on this forum. The only drama with mine seems to be rust in the chassis. It towed fine from Sydney. A mate is going to sandblast below but then I'm unsure as where to from there. fish oil? silver frost paint. I will try and post some pics over the weekend. It's almost in pristine condition but for the steel underneath which is a little rusty. The old fella had it garaged all his life can you believe? In very good nic from what I can tell re this website. Have ordered checkerboard lino for floor. Some curtains. That's about it. Some very minor work on the upholstery is needed - a button or two. Looking forward to everybody's feedback once I've worked out how to post pics. cheerio, Dorian

G,day Atog,
Thanks for the reply mate. You're a champion. Yeah, the price was right.javascript:add(%22%20;D%22) The old fella who owned the van is in his mid nineties and is in now in a home - sans wheels. His son, richer than you and me, was getting rid of 'junk' in the backyard and asked if I wanted it. (You know the way rich people can never be bothered to put an ad in the trading post like normal people.)
I write funny travel features (SMH, Age, columnist with Oz Traveller mag) and I took it with the view of taking my kids away in it and writing a features about how families spent their holidays in the 1950s.
I will take some snaps over the weekend and post. I need some advice about restoring it - though it's in remarkable condition methinks.
cheers, Dorian

Very excited to find another fibro on this forum - which I have been quietly following on my laptop between sips of beer and my wife saying "turn that bloody thing off" for some months. We were recently given a Sunliner (1963) in remarkably good condition methinks. Although your Skyliner looks even better. Skyliners and Sunliners seem awfully similar. Is there a connection perhaps? Please keep us all posted with any changes. What are the plans for the flooring? We have ordered some checkerboard lino for our van which we pick up next week. Can anyone tell me how best to restore the chassis? I'm thinking sandblast the rust then fish oil? then silver frost paint. Dunno... I'm pretty crap with this sort of thing. Any suggestions...? Keen to see any Sunliner pics. Found the old brochure via this website which was a thrill indeed. Dorian (New member)
