We took delivery of a very immaculate 1959 'Holiday Maker' Ramsay van this week.....very exciting!! I thought I would post a few photos of the outside tonight and finish the story tomorrow...... The inside is original and immaculate. Bit of work to be done to get on the road: roadworthy, gas cert, electrics etc etc.... more pics tomorrow.....

Hi Megann It's wonderful that you've run into fellow members on your tour around Australia with the kids, and got the bug. I can see why you have been so excited, and even doing a bit of a "Ta Da!" serialized reveal (are you following Mark T's example?). Is that a cat in the cream smile I see? She certainly is a beauty - and all that there is on file so far in Down History Lane is a single advertisement. You will have to pass some on to Don Ricardo, who can update that record with the shots of your van. Wonderful find - I look forward to hearing how you came to have it just as much as seeing the interior shots. Just super! Seeshell

What a lovely van. Particularly like the paint work and the towel rail - very cool!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments! Seashell, I would never dddrraaggg it out....so I have been busy out in my pj's this morning quickly decorating and taking inside pics!! 'Ramsay' is certainly very special (as they all are)....I have added some information to the DHL thread on this van as the previous owner met the son (Keith) of Donald Ramsay whilst camping in 2004. He jotted down some notes about the van which I have added to the thread. He was found on the Trading Post and I inquired just minutes after the ad went live. ;D The owner and I quickly developed a nice repall and after a few days I decided to bite the bullet, break the cardinal rule and buy it unseen!! He described it honestly and was true to his word. (thank goodness) I then used 'Mick' for transportation of the van from Adelaide to Brisbane. (Mick's number can be found in technical under transportation as another forum member has used him with no complaints). 'Ramsay' towed well and zoomed along at 95km/hr comfortably. Communication and service from Mick cannot be faulted. I would certainly use his service again... Next week I will travel the road to roadworthiness in Queensland.....which I am sure will be challenging to say the least. Any suggestions, recommendations, guidance regarding the 'roadworthy challenge' will be muchly appreciated!!!! Original lino... The previous owner added this box which swivels out and around....used for a tv.... The original gas fridge...would this still be able to be used? Original gas stove...looks a bit scary.....would this still be able to be used?? All the beds and cushions have been upholstered with red vinyl and this cute fabric.... The water tank is situated under the cupboard.... Next instalment.....photos of underneath....

What a time capsule..... This is an awesome find... And it all looks in such good condition I really love the stove... it may no be so streamlined as some but it is quirky and stylish to the max... l I really hope that the fridge and stove can still be used because they lend such an air of uniqueness to the kitchen and certainly make for one of the most interesting caravan kitchens i have seen.. I also love the little push button handles on the cupboards... and the lary red lino really sets it all off Congratulation on your piece of caravanning history.. hope to see it on the roads around brissy one day
