I was thinking what would make a good strong bed base, was light, and let a lot of air around the mattress. I thought security screen might fit the bill. Has anyone tried it.
Yes I know it isn't true to the period.

OK, no one has tried it. Can anyone see why it wouldn't work?

Greedy, I suppose slats wouldn't be that much heavier. I know the good stuff won't sag but I haven't priced it. It may be expensive.
Reddo, I like to know my arse is secure.

Security screen ooh made of ali and when ali stretches or bends it wont return to original shape I would stick to wooden slats

Cant think of a reason to knock the Idea. However If it's used as a Trampoline and in the design of the base a cross support at were your hips are and a perimeter frame should be enough support. This is where my Caravan bed has a cross brace and perimeter support the ply slat trampoline base. The Bed base in my van is only 25mm x 25mm pine and 3mm ply very simple with minimal weight and has never broken in 12 years.

the slates were the cheap ones but i had framing every 18 inches that acted like legs i'm a little on the robust side of 100 kgs and have no worries

Thanks bubbles, rattles, and greedy (where but on the 'net would I write that intro). I am trying to keep weight in mind as the van seems quite heavy already.
