Hi vintage caravanners. I just bought a 1968 Olympic and thought I'd better build a network of caring friends so I can keep it running. I am in Wandering, WA - that is a place not a state of being, which is a pity.
I must admit I didn't set out to buy vintage for my first van but the olympic was good value, that attracted me at first. When I saw the van I liked it immediately because of the curves of the body design.
I am not a handy sort of guy, haven't got a shed, and failed to inherit my father's skill with wood (he was a railways car and wagon builder.... trained in the 1930's..... could build anything out of wood). Be that as it may I am going to attempt to modify the bed on the van.... expect lots of painful bleating for advice about that and other things.
Anyhow, the name's Bill..... cheers and have a good day.

Hi Bill
Welcome to the Olympic family - you will find them very friendly and helpful as I did. If you haven't come across Boblor already, I am sure he will be in touch about your chassis number - he keeps a record of all the numbers and their history.
There are a number of friendly experts around the place, and lots of help no matter what the job you undertake. Bobandjacqui, atouchofglass, and many others have experience and advice to provide and others who are just renovating or fixing their vans that have great pictures and experience to share. Be sure and check out the Members Photo Album section - which has progress shots. There are many Olympics shown in various states of undress! ;D
They are a very pretty van - and quite practical for storage. No doubt you'll enjoy her for many years, and hopefully get to Wandering soon.
Cheers Seeshell

Unfortunately the original beds are gone. I don't know what type it is. It is one Bob already had catalogued. The owner had it as a 1966 but Bob's records have it as early 1968. I will get the chassis number when I pick it up and double check. No stickers left unfortunately. I have had a go at posting the pics I had. The photo bucket test link wouldn't let me in the have a dry run (wanted a password and didn't like mine).... so I hope these links work. [a href=" "] [/a]

Welcome takeiteasy, Good to see another west aussie getting on board . Atouchofglass has already helped you with some links to other sections on this site........another local (WA) contact is lovshack, the proud owner of an Olympic...if you send him a PM (personal message), he will possibly give you his personal contact details so that you can get some hints off him. Hi Bill and welcome aboard, nice looking van you've picked up there, you don't really need to do much at all by the looks of it.

Hi 'takeiteasy' Bill Welcome to the Olympic family, pleased you recognised 'glass is class'. We first came across your van on a trip around the block in 2006 at Geralton, your chassis no. is 1405. I am sure you will get a lot of enjoyment from your van and meeting others who have similar interests, particularly fellow Olympic owners, and there are quite a few in WA. Glad I was able to give some advice prior to your purchase. Feel free to make contact for any further help / assistance with any TLC. Cheers boblor

You can rest assured you will hear from me Bob. Your advice was a great help. I picking it up tomorrow. I have been promising myself to improve the cooling system on my old jeep. I might regret being tardy with that job on the return trip tomorrow..... that will add to the excitement.

I believe I will be there Brian.
Yipee, all paid for and sitting out the front. Now I have to find a auto leccy to instal the brake controller. My poor old jeep had a hard time..... I drove with the heater on and the windows down to keep it cool. It was a rather warm day without having the heater on. I think its time for a HD radiator.
