Those vintage vanners travelling accross the nullabour next October for the WA 2012 spring tour - come - 10th website anniversary run are well advised to stop at Kelleberin, a wheatbelt town on Great Eastern Highway about 200 kms east of Perth.
Richard & John Marek have bought the ex Dowding Holden dealership, and have turned it into an Holden museum.
Check out their website at marekbrosgarage.com/
Yesterday, they had their opening day, and myself, with mates Rod & Gary (F J van & F E ute) and Don Loffler travelled to Kellerberin for the big day.
Don was in Perth to celebrate Alan Little's (Perth collector of FX/FJ's) 70th birthday, and to make a presentation at the opening of the Kellerberin museum.
I travelled with Gary in his immaculate F E ute, and Rod & Don were in Rod's FJ van:
the dealership showroom
the caryard adjoining the showrooms
Of course, with it being xmas, Santa was there:
If I sit on Santa's lap, and ask 'im nicely, wonder if he'll give me the red fire truck for xmas ;D ;D
Betty Boop was taking our lunch orders:
.............in the workshop was this nice ute with a Lowline canopy
This project FJ was badly damaged by a heavy handed sandblaster, and now is only good for painting up and display as a stock car
a project pending Heavy Duty wagon ...............good ones of these are as rare as these days:
wrong
interesting blinds fitted to a HD Prem sedan
an original Kelleberin work ute out the back
Dowding motors in the 1950's
in the 60's:
1997
2011
all in all, a great day, and a display well worth seeing
Don's presentation was excellent, as he ran through the history of some very significant local early Holdens housed in WA, and the story of the arrival of the first Holdens in Perth WA.
One such very spthecial ;D old Holden Don spoke of, we were to view the following day at Alan Little's 70th birthday celebrations.
I'll cover Alan's birthday in a seperate post ....stay tuned
