G'day Borris, Thanks for telling us about your van and welcome to the forum. Have you acquired the van recently, or have you had it for a while? The photo of the van is pretty small, but from what I can see, it doesn't look quite the right shape for an Overland, or at least a 1960 Overland. However, it really is impossible to tell from such a tiny pic. Are you able to post a larger photo? If you have some bigger photos but are not sure how to post them, there are instructions in the 'Forum Guidelines and Helpful Hints' section of the forum. We all like photos on the forum, so if you can post a larger photo we will be glad to look at it and see if we can help you identify the van. Give us a hoy if you have trouble with getting the pics up. There's a few people on the forum that tow with trucks as well, so I have no doubt they will be interested in the Austin. Looking forward to reading and seeing more... Don Ricardo

Here are some more photos. Hopefully will be a larger size this time. We only picked the van up from Newcastle 2 weeks ago & the gentleman had no history on it. He believes it was made in the 60’s but wasn’t sure – he’d only bought it to sell on. There are no markings on the van – no chassis number or anything else. The only marking we can find is on the windows – all of them have this label. Which to me would possibly indicate a Brisbane made van – maybe? The main body of the van is clad in this diamond shaped pressed metal. This pic also shows the window struts which might help with aging. The roof of the van has been replaced at some stage hence the different finish. The inside is in reasonable nick – except for some water damage/rot over the stove area

Hi Borris,
The window struts are the same as in our 1956 Deejay van, which also has aluminium windows. But our van was built in Melbourne, so I'd guess the struts were a common enough product back then. Looks a pretty good van, my comment would be not to worry too greatly about its age . Its probably late 50's or early 60's at latest, so it fits into our Forum age group. Just fix it up & use it. One of our SE Qld group has an Overland, so if you roll up to one of our events you will be able to compare notes. JBJ

G'day Borris,
Well done on mastering Photobucket. It takes a while to figure it out, but once you've done it, you'll find it's not that hard.
Looks like you've got yourself a nice van.
I've checked the pics out and I'm almost certain it's not an Overland - or at least not one like we've seen before. We know what they looked like up until 1961 and they were quite a different shape...
Overland were built in Melbourne, so if your theory about the flywire screens is correct - and there's a pretty good chance that you are - then it is more likely to be a Brisbane built van, or next most likely, a NSW built van.
Somebody like Hughdeani or Franklin1 may be able to help. They are both pretty knowledgeable about 60's aluminium clad vans.
If you look on the A-frame you may be able to find a serial number which may indicate the make of the van (based on the format of the number) and the year. It may consist of weld laid on the A-frame or a number engraved into one of the arms of the A-frame - on top, underneath, or on one or other side. It may be under a few coats of paint so you may have to look hard or wire brush off some paint.
The other thing is... what does the rego sticker on the window say?

It was the wife who worked out photobucket - thanks to the instructions that were sent with the "welcome to the forum" email when I registered - the Mrs said they were very helpful & made it easy, thanks to the author MarkT.
Unfortunately that's not a rego sticker you can see on the window it is actually a very faded sticker for Expo'88 which was held here in Brizzy. So either the van or the owner was here in Brizzy in 1988 that much we can be sure of.
I'm just curous as to what make it might be & to get a possible age for it. The A frame needs re-painting anyway so we will keep an eye out for a chassis number then. But it really doesn't make ANY difference in the long run as we intend to fix it up & enjoy it along with our old vehicles for as long as possible.
My Mrs reckons we were born in the wrong age - both of us like the older things (mind you I do prefer indoor plumbing). Personally I think the older things have more style than the modern stuff.

Hi Borris
Welcome to the forum! Nice van, plenty to work with there. Love the fridge, great cupboard hinges, but sorry, it's not an Overland...at least not a late fifties Overland, as our Overland is approx 1956-58 (due to having original aluminium windows rather than wooden windows. We've studied old ads in detail & it doesn't look like an Overland, even into the 60's. The laminex definitely looks early 60's, it's lovely. So you've got a great van, nice looking floor too.
Wonder whether LO Baker put the aluminium on, or whether Bakers were a carriage maker who made vans/buses etc in Brisbane like Athol Hedges. Didn't see the comment re screens. Are the screens on the inside of the van?
maybe Al might be able to enlighten us whether it might be an early Millard, Franklin or Coronet.
hey Borris, if I ever get time to master Photobucket again, I'll post inside snaps of our Overland. Otherwise you'll have to bring your van to a get together here in SEQ! I got a PM from "atlantic" some time back who has an Overland but have never seen photos of it as yet!
