We were first introduced to this great drive in years ago by Retro 64, Lion-el and Elona.
The location is in between KilkiVAN and Gympie. Great night out. The Banno clan have also been and apparently the managers might be interested in putting on a movie night. So what do you all think?. We could see if we can do a package for two nights and camp there. Would have to find out about the shower situation as well. (The Kimbombi Falls aren't too far away maybe we could all go for a dip there. No rudy noodies). Thinking early next year:Feb.
What are your thoughts guys if there is enough interest l am happy to follow up some details.
Cheers Des and Kel

Hiya des and kel, The Widgee drive In is a great spot. We used to attend just about every Saturday night. Always thought it would make a great destination, full of old cars and Vans. Though some may hate it , I recon Grease was a great old movie, Olivia and John in their prime, all that slicked back hair and the Pink ladies....... love to see that on the big screen again (just about everybody would have to know the words to the songs... hem hem mee mee mee , just warming up, probably be singing Greased Lightning all day now ). Or maybe some Jimmy Dean or Marylin Munroe, I wonder what the owner would have access to... Last time we went they made great hamburgers and hot donuts in their retro styled diner. Good luck with getting this one off the ground. cheers retro 64 Elona( greased lightning fan) and Lionel

Hi everyone - It's a great idea, but it would seem that the Wonga Drive In (near Widgee) closed in July - says on the net that they were selling up - unless someone has bought and is re-opening it Would have loved to go there. But if a trip out that way is still planned, the Kilkivan Bush Camp near the old gold mine used to be very good - they have changed owners and we haven't been there since, but used to be nice there. The Beenleigh and Tivoli Drive-ins are still open, but doubt you could stay overnight there. Linda and Peter.

Yep unfortunately guys it did shut down again with the new owner bailing after just 6 months i think. I spoke to him earlier in the year to advertise in Vintage Caravan Magazine, but he wasnt interested, such a terrible shame, weve been there quite a few times and it was always a fantastic night out. nicole.

Well sorry for getting some of us all excited. I had heard that it had closed the first time, however not the second.

Its a shame about Widgee, so how about a weekend away nearby to Yatala - maybe tie it in with one of their retro nights? Been years since I went to the "drives"!

Yeah it's sad about the drive-ins. wikipedia has a good rave re driveins. Only 4 left in NSW, & only Yatala left on Gold Coast. Sounds like there's one still at Ipswich if you fancy singing hymns with your movie. Dosse might enlighten us there!

G'day Smiles, The Drive-in at Dromana on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria still seems to be going strong - 3 screens and all! As it happens I passed by it today. They even have a car club night - the next one is on 25 February. Now, if all you SEQ'ers would like to organise a run down for that one, us Victorian V V'ers will meet you there... Which would be a bit of a turn-up, because our track record for organising and actually turning up at events is not - how shall we say it - world class. Incidentally the Dromana Drive-in website includes some info here on drive-ins that are still operating as well as those that are closed for those of you who would like a dose of nostalgia! Yes I think it would be a bit of a stretch to see a movie, even for us keen SEQ V-Vers!
Doesn't sound as though there's anything remotely like a drive-in near Cowra either, apparently the Big Screen & nothing else is on the outskirts of Dubbo.
Anyone want to drive to Tibooburra or Lightning Ridge?

I think the Beenleigh one is now the Yatala drive-in
