I was wondering if the 'oh wise ones' out there might know what type of van this is. We saw it on one of our travels around this great land. Is it a Don? Smiley

Sure looks like one. Wait till Don Ricardo sees this, he'll probably tell you which day of the week it was built ;D ;D ;D

Hey Smiley, What area is it in when you found it? Did you find out if it's for sale? I am interested in restoring another van and I think a Don would be pretty cool.
Love to surprise my wife cause when we went to Maroochydore she loved Dosse's.
Thanks Shane

The photo was taken ages ago and have no memory where it was as we have done many a back road of this country. I only found it when going through old photos. It wasn't for sale just hanging in a back yard somewhere.

Sure looks like one. Wait till Don Ricardo sees this, he'll probably tell you which day of the week it was built ;D ;D ;D Hi Smiley, Roehm and Samson, Thanks for the compliment Roehm, but I'm not quite that good. ;D ;D ;D However...as it happens I can tell you where it is! It's in a yard in Mia Mia in Victoria. I've driven past it a few times over the last few years - click here. You can see it with Google Earth, but you'd have to know what you're looking for to be able to pick it. The level of deterioration you can see in Smiley's photo is similar to what you can see in the photos I took in 2009, so I'm thinking it may have been around then that you took your photo Smiley? The good news is that when I last saw the van about two months ago, it was covered over with a tarp - which won't necessarily help protect the bondwood - but it looked as if it was being worked on. So hopefully it is on the way to being restored. Unfortunately I haven't been able to date the van. The external serial number plate is missing, and although I've tried to contact the owner a couple of times, I haven't managed to do so. There's been no answer to the notes I've left, etc, so I'm guessing from that that it's not for sale either Samson. And just to add to what Dosse said, the van is a Don 140 model (14 ft) which were built from the late 30's through to 1956, so the van could date from anywhere within that range. But it appears to have been kitted out for gas and it has a nearside clearance light, so I'm guessing at this point that it's a 50's van?? Don Ricardo
