G'day Roehm and Sheppo, We have been to WA a few times, but it's not there! You have both homed in on the correct location with a place overlooking the Spencer Gulf though. But Sheppo has picked it with Moonta Bay. Congratulations, Sheppo. The connection between the photo and caravanning is that the jetty is adjacent to the local caravan park. While we were staying at the Moonta Bay caravan park, I happened to be reading Trevor Gill's book Still Swinging the Billy about the South Australian caravan industry. I closed the book and looked at the back cover, only to realise with a bit of a start that if the photo had been taken 59 years later, we would have been in it! It was a strange sense of deja vu (or whatever the opposite is). This is the photo of the Moonta Bay caravan park and jetty taken in 1953 from the back of Trevor's book, with the approximate position of our caravan in 2012 marked with an arrow: A couple of other shots from 2012. First the driveway along the front of the caravan park and foreshore looking in the opposite direction from the jetty: And our set-up. There are a few more trees now: One of the nights we were in Moonta Bay, a huge wind blew up around midnight. We heard all our neighbours with their modern caravans, out either rolling in their awnings so that the arms didn't get bent, or 'tap tapping' away securing or adding guy ropes. Us? We didn't feel the need to get up to check anything. Next morning one of our neighbours told us that while they had all been running around at midnight, they had commented to each other that ours was the oldest caravan in the park by far, but that our awning stayed put without us having to get out to do anything. I might possibly have mentioned that things were properly done in the old days... Your turn, Sheppo. Don Ricardo

No mate, It's between JWs wattle and where the Hudson lives. Easy. Little village totally untouched by the 21-2 centuries, the whole town is all late 1800s. amazing

Hi Sheppo,
I vaguely remember travelling thru Stockinbingal quite a few years back, & it rang a bell when you mentioned JW's wattle on roughly where it could be.
I can't work out about where the Hudson bit comes in yet, so I guess you will have to enlighten me about that one.
Does the old pub still operate & do Counter lunches??
Must go back thru there again one day

Your right on the money JBC, Stockinbingal is a time warp, halfway between Cootamundra (wattle) and Temora (the Hudson). Well worth a look if your out that way, Pub only does meals on the weekend. When i was there last the old convent and bank were up for sale. I have a mate that lives there. Your go mate.

Hi,
This thread has a real problem, in that if you post a photo using photobucket, all anyone has to do is click on the photo, highlight "properties" & it shows what the photo is filed in your computer as.
So I dont see any point in me posting any photos at this stage, as my libraries are listed by locations.
Someone else have a go.

Before uploading the photo to Photobucket. Copy it to your desktop, rename the image file as photo001 or similar and then upload it to Photobucket.
Instead of you photo file name saying Brokenhill Nats it will now say photo001.

Okey Dokey. This is a picture of reportedly, the largest tree of its type in the world. As it grew to such a massive size over many years ,it split under its own weight, spreading out to cover an area of an estimated 1000 square meters......having several trunks and many separate 'upgrowths' If any one gets this, "I'll donate a sucking pig to the local Synagog".....as my old Grandfather used to say. (....in the times before political correctness!!)

Not sure about the tree, outback somewhere, but that young lady looks vaguely familiar. Agreed, Cruz. I am sure I have seen her somewhere before... Hi Sutcac, Well I've tried to use my powers of logic - and my friend Mr Google - to work out the location of that tree, but to no avail. But...I reckon once someone has worked out the location, you should send the details to this website which provides a national register of Australian big trees. It deserves to be there, but it's not yet (as far as I could see, anyway). Don Ricardo

OK .....here's few clues. But doubt that they will help much. The tree is a Coolibah or Coolabah and is located on a Company(NAPCO) cattle station in Qld. On the banks of a river starting with 'D' Photo was taken in the late 90's while working as visiting teachers with School of the Air, based in Mt Isa Hence a more youthful looking Mrs Sutcac!!!! Children are the managers family who we had been working with that day and were keen to show us 'points of interest' on the station. We only had to drive about 15 km from the homestead through several gates to see it.!!!! Strangely enough I did meet someone else who knew of the tree about 10 years ago, here in Buderim. He was a guy who had worked on the station as a young 'ringer' back in the day. Cheers, Sutcac
