Hey, I have done a search ;D, but found nothing on this subject, so please forgive if I am asking a question you are all sick of answering! Ours is a 1958 Sunliner, and we wonder if anyone has come up with a carrier for the spare tyre at the back and under the van? (No room on the draw-bar). Any hints or links to photos appreciated, thanks, franivy

Hi,
If you look thru the thread"Jailbarjuice Sunliner Restoration" you will find photos of one simple way to do it.

Hi Franivy. What JBJ is referring to is the bracketing he made to mount his wheel on the rear of his van.The unit pictured has a removeable shaft which allows for different dia winders to be used.Extended drop of chain:635mm/2`-1". Wound up without wheel attached: 150mm/6".(approx measurements).Centre to centre of fixing bolts (top): 70mm/2-3/4". To attach this sort of mechanism a length of steel angle would be bolted along cross member. Then the unit. Various styles of these units differ in the shape/width of the wheel holding bracket. So if you choose this method, measure the diameter of your wheel centre to allow the bracket to slip through & pull up flush. Wrecking yards/4wd outlets or spare parts outlets may have these.cheers

Hi Franivy, I thought I had posted pix of what I did, but I cant find them anywhere. what I did is similar to the following pix I made a cradle to support the wheel, out of light angle section from Bunings, & mounted the front ends by u bolts to the existing cross tube of the sunliner. For the rear, I connected both supports together at the center, just below the back of the van, below a cross member of the chassis. I made a hook arrangement & winder from threaded bar stock, with wing nuts, to allow the assembly to be lowered. A bit similar to the one in the pix here, but it has 2 winders where I used one.The beauty of this system is you can make it & bolt it together without a welder. The set up Gordon shows I used on Lucille, & found it worked OK, but took a bit more skill to set up so it worked ok. Sorry for the incorrect info I gave earlier. All of this was posted years ago, & memory is slowly fading at times as I get older. JBJ

Wonderful info, and I will pass it all on to non-computer literate He Who Does All The Work (Peter). Thanks for your time. Franivy

Thanks, Humpyboy, that makes sense. I think, though, that HWDATW is going with something along the lines of the one JBJ showed us.
