Hi all, thought we would share a couple of photos of our "new" van called Jellybean. It needs a bit of work done to it, but we are looking forward to just using and enjoying it. I couldn't get any decent photos of inside the van as I need a wide angle lens cause it's so small... lol. We don't have much info about the van, other than it was used to take goods to Chandler markets to sell until it was purchased about 10 years ago by the man we bought it from. It has sat in his back yard for the past 7 years, so he was happy for it to go to a good home. Have spent today at the markets looking for "old" stuff to put in it, as I have a bit more room now compared to the teardrop. Dianne

Yeah the roof shape is why the owner called it jellybean. We think it is early 50s and homemade. If anyone has any info on the history of this type of van we would love to hear it. The tow hitch is a 1948 IMP and the windows have been changed to the aluminium ones. You can see where the old windows used to be on the sides. Someone put the galvanised sheet over the bottom to patch some bad rot. I am going to leave it because we don't want pull the whole thing apart. We are just going to fix the rotted frame and repaint inside and out. Cheers John and Dianne

There is no point me going to garage sales for a few weeks then is it Di. I did keep my word and not mention the van to anyone as it was great to unveil it at the event yesterday and very appropriate name for it.
Cute in the pictures but much better up close and you have done really well inside already. Rollydog

One of our employees walked past it every time he went to the pub on Saturdays. It was always covered up, then the owner took the tarp off and it was visable from the road at Deception Bay. Dianne went and made him an offer as soon as we heard about it then we towed it home the next weekend. The 74 year old gentleman was really upset about selling it but he said he was happy it was going to a good home. He worked on it all week tidying it up for us and repainted the Jellybean name, so we will keep that in his honour. Cheers.

Hi Jondi55 What a darling little van your Jellybean is! While you say the aluminum on your van isn't original, it still is very charming to say the least. No doubt like a few others, I'm keen to see some pictures of the inside - kitting it out will be a lot of fun. Might be time to have a good look at the Propert link - those folks sure do know how to pack all the luxuries into tight spaces. Congratulations on your new acquisition! Seeshell

G'day John & Dianne How cute is little jellbean Ilse and I love jellbean's ....she into the black ones . Any-way after a careful study of the profile of this van and an extensive and exhaustive time spent on research looking for evidence of its origin ( about five minutes ) I have come to the conclusion that the builder had two things in mind.....the first was to keep the van low to the ground as he may have been vertically challenged ( short ) and the second may have been contraception ....as only one adult can sleep inside at a time. Looking forward to seeing both on our next run. dosse

Hi John and Di, Your van will come up a beauty, What dennis and I have done with DeeJay, fixed what was essential whilst still using it.Then as time ,money permits we add another little personal touch. All of a sudden it starts to come together to be your unique van. As you use it ideas start coming like colours what you would like on floor, bedding, curtains etc . Take your time and enjoy your journey in VV land. Cheers Sue

What a ccute little van you have there!!! It has a striking resemblance to the Bantam 10 Trail-a-home. Maybe underneath all that extra covering there may be some identifying feature!! Good luck and enjoy a van you can now (almost??) stand up in.

Hi guys, Goodness, blue chux soaked in something and then used to patch up rot, who would of imagined finding that kind of hidden treasure. I suppose the repairer used whatever was a hand ,they may even have been recycled from the kitchen washing up before the van !!!! Well, Jellybean is in good hands now, new linings and timber windows , a sink and etc. looking forward to seeing the progress and end result of all your hard work. If your lovely teardrop is an example of what to expect it'll be gorgeous. p.s. good luck with the sagging (roof that is) ;D ;D ;D cheers retro64

hi guys, dont peek behind the..... dont peek behind the...uh oh... too late Never mind, your little Jellybean will be fabulous when you finish peeking and patching and replacing... Seriously though thats one really cool little van and will bring you lots of good times and satisfaction with a job well done. Got to say the diamond was pretty cute, certainly some creative covering up I'm with you, no way I'd peek at the roof no telling what you'd find Only one way to find out though Best 'o' luck with the bean, retro64

Hi jondi55 Isn't it always the way? After all the sweat and cash you are going to put into your van - to enjoy for many years to come - it always seems like false economy "not to do it properly"...And so it begins...the renovation of a thousand cuts! I'm sure you'll be very pleased in the end that you've denuded the bean, and brought her up to code and that there will be no more Chux or Diamonds in your future! But, maybe, just maybe, save the roof (and your sanity) for now. That which the eye doesn't see, for now, the heart won't grieve! So long as she's watertight, it'll keep till the rest is done and you get a sense of satisfaction (and work up the intestinal fortitude for Part II). Fantastic work - keep up the pictures, and the very lively story of The Jellybean! Cheers Seeshell
