Hi I have a 1965 viscount ambassador aluminium van. I brought this van last year but im now faced with a dilemma of either upgrading the axel to 15" or replacing the bearings. I know its a 13" holden rims and tyres, could anyone help me identify the axel and bearings so i can look at both options please. Is there a standard bearing for this axel? cheers Jan

yep bearings they are about the 1 constant in the world bearing numbers are the same all over the world.if you want to build a axle you build to the bearing as there is no 1 of's

The reason why i was thinking of updating the bearings or changing the axel is, the van had been sitting in a garage for the last 20 + old years from previous owner. So really im not sure on the state of them. Plus im wanting to travel to Alice springs in August and didnt want the bearing going or the axel breaking on me. I drive a 90 series Prado and thought the height might be helpful towing. Also by turning the axel on top of the leaf springs to below the leaf spring will allow a 2.5 to 3" raised allowing extra clearance for the 15" axel. but really unsure of this process if its best for the van!! But as you guys say there's no standard bearing that went into the vans then i have no choice but to take the bearings out.......just really scary when im not sure whether its a pressed or non pressed bearing.. thanks for your comments........guess its pull apart at the weekend

HK,HT,HG 14" holden have the same Stud Pattern. However the space in the heel arch my be the limiting factor. The 14" tyres now have to be Light Truck Type.

Hi Jann,
I know we keep reminding members, but if you put your general location in your profile, other members will know then if they are in your area. There are a few members around the northern end of Newcastle, Maitland area that may be prepared to assist.

Here's a pic of the axel, i havent had time to jet wash it yet sorry but as you can see i took the wheel off and jacked it up. by looking at the stub axel its been welded on, unsure if its original or not. wheel bearings, unsure if its pressed or not, I'll have to open it up at the weekend. didnt have much time today!

Anyone here thinks that the axel might be original cause my hubby dosnt think so but then we dont know much about these's Vans. He thinks it might be just the stub axel welded to the box section. Any help would be much appreciated!! ;D
