I have recently looked at a Sunliner which is for sale, I will describe it as best I can......as I haven't any photos of it. It is a 1960 model, pipe chassis with independent suspension. The interior is the fibreglass lined type with plenty of cupboards and drawers. Some slight timber/ply work to the seats required and around the windows. The hatch is good and all interior parts are there, including the original fridge. The floor appears to be in good condition, no cushions or table. The general outside body is good but will need to be totally sanded off and repainted. There is also an annexe available, condition unknown. NOW.......the work bit.... The windows have been modified with 2 viscount style aluminium windows grafted on the front and one big viscount style aluminium at the back........some fibreglass repair work required here .....quite a lot actually. It is a caravan for someone who is not in a hurry to have a finished van immediatley and knows a good fibreglasser. You will need a LOT of time.......but it would be a good restorer. I don't have the time, or else it would be at my place now. The sellers name is Kevin.....and he can be contacted on.. 0412 454706 most of the time or 02 49 913579 sometimes. The van is near Cessnock NSW and the asking price is $2500

I'm not afraid of hard work just don't know a lot about restoring this would b my first attempt but it's a dream I have had for a while so my heart is in !

The fibreglassing and work around the windows is major. As I said before, knowing a fibreglasser would be an asset. I could do it as I've had a lot of experience with Sunliners, but I don't have the time. You would end up with a different window system to normal, I would envisage a full sheet of dark tinted lexen across the front and the back to do the job properly. Not really for amateurs, it will be a big job (the fibreglassing that is).

Hey rose,
You'd probably be surprised how many have bought their vans without seeing it in the flesh, allthough photos may have been provided, or a friend or rellie may have looked at it for them.
Theres probably a HUGE list of pros and cons, but whatever you choose to do, best of luck in finding your special sunny.
cheers retro64

Gidday Rose, Banno here again. I think you should buy it. I can arrange any help you need. You can then make this the Sunliner of your dreams. The purchase price makes it Value to start a project. You will enjoy makeing it your own, as opposed to buying a finished van that you would like to change things but as they are good you leave them.

Congrats Rose - Even if sometimes you're overwhelmed by what has to be done, remember that at the end you'll love your van because you've handled every nut, bolt, and slot head screw. There's lots to be proud of just getting started - you are on your way. Being prepared to have a go at something new, being able to admire your handiwork as you progress, and learning something as you go are all little achievements to celebrate as you head towards the finish line! I can say my experience (being relatively new to this as well!) is that you'll get lots of support from people here who just want it to turn out as well as you do. Getting to see the work of others is great fun and inspiration on those days when you feel it's getting the better of you. And if you don't know something, there's already heaps of information here. We're glad you're here! Now first order of business: master Photobucket, because we're going to need photos of your progress! See you around the traps Seeshell

I'm waiting for Kevin to drop the photo off to me tonight and I will post it, as he is not computer savvy. Here is the photo that Kevin gave me, note the rear window modification that could probably stay if you didn't want it original. The paint as you will see is falling off .........makes it easy to sand back. NOTE......You will need 13" Holden wheels, the tyres look like they are sunk in the ground, but they are not.......just sitting in a hollow. Good luck.

WOW better looking than I had pictured but a lot of work ahead of me oh well no pain no gain Question 1 ; how hard is it to get my hands on original windows ?? Or can I get windows custom made
Joey I'm in on the rainbow theme I'm thinking a pastel rainbow in & out I'm along way off painting but gotta keep looking forward on a job like this !!
