G'day Pete, Nice little van.......doesn't say much about the modern fridge that it has to have a couple of okky straps across it to keep the door shut Daggsey

Hi Chris
I agree, the owners said they put that fridge in to make do. They have not done anything to the van as far as renovations are concerned. Yes she needs some minor work to tidy her up prior to making any improvements or restoration work.

Hi everyone, We had a look at this van today, very nice and tidy. The registration sticker had it as a 1976 Ches. Could this be short for Chesney? It had alum windows made by Baker and Son of Brisbane, the same company that made windows for our 1961 Sunshine. Cheers Jim.

The rego does say Ches 76. The van is an earlier vintage than 1976.

Thanks Jim
I agree. Its a bit hard to determine make or year given there is very little known about the van. The current owners have not been able to give put much light on her history. She will however make a great VV for someone Pete

Hi all, While one has to take the info on rego stickers with a large lump of salt - and that applies especially to the date for this one - I reckon there's a reasonable chance that this one is what the sticker says - a Chesney. For starters it's located in Queensland where Chesney were located, and experience on the forum over the years has shown that the large majority of vans are found in the state in which they were built - it was really only in the late 60's and the 70's that van manufacturers started selling their vans across Australia. Before that, manufacturing and sales seem to have been very much state based. Secondly, to my eye the van seems to have a lot of similarities to some of the other Chesney's we've seen. Have a look at the vans shown on the Chesney thread in the Down History Lane section here - particularly those in Replies 8 & 9. Both those vans have the rather unusual feature of the roof being significantly higher at the front and then sloping towards the back that the Bribie Island has. The pic of Marjie2's van doesn't show it very well, but the side profile is very similar to the Bribie van (and it's got a porthole window as well). Regarding age, my guess is 50's and the fact that it has wooden windows (I am correct on that, am I?) suggests early 50's. Marjie2's van is of a similar design but with aluminium windows and has been dated as 1956. My two cents worth. Don Ricardo
