Hey Dave,
I would suggest you would need a BIG ass welder to put a stub axle back on, normal arc (240 volt - 3.0mm rods) would just not penetrate deep enough I reckon. At least I would seek some professional advice.
What is the width of your Wayfarer?? You say it is a 4 or 5" drop??

Hiya Dave, stick a photo on....might be something that can be repaired if it's right up at the end......if not,you can get a new axle made to whatever dimension you want ......regards, Col.

Hiya ..a bit hard to tell how much is axle damage and how much is smeared nut.......you're probably going to have to try and separate the nut remnant from the axle to see if it's saveable......a couple of careful cuts with a 1mm disc and a smack with a sharp cold chisel should split the nut away from the threaded end......if the thread can be re-cut and the end squared off ,you may be able to machine the outer bearing recess to move the bearing inboard a little to give you a bit more thread for a new nut....but it's a bit of foolin' around, especially if you have to rely on others to do machine work,etc.......so it's probably going to be more cost effective to shop around for a new axle and then you can have it drilled to whatever wheel pattern ,width and drop that you want. There's a few trailer manufacturers up this way in Bayswater if you can't find anyone closer.......do a bit of phoning around once you have some measurements to give them......cheers.....

G'day Dave, no.....they aren't removable. If the stub axle can't be saved ,then it's time for a whole axle. It isn't really a big deal, you should be able to take your whole axle and hubs to a trailer/caravan supplier and have one reproduced to the same spec....including the locater. Might take a bit of shopping around to find the right place, not so much a retailer as a manufacturer....so that the guy you are dealing with is the guy who builds the part.....saves time and avoids stuff ups through miscommunication.....happy hunting ;D

Hi Dave,
Hope you welded the saddles onto the axles, cause if you didnt they will slide around, no matter how much you tighten the U-bolts.
Just an observation cause I didnt see anything to indicate you had
Those straight axles are much cheaper than dropped axles, & if they are rated OK & do the job, I guess they are OK.
