Hi All There has been some discussion under "NSW 2011 Runs and Events"re a V.V weekend away at East Gresford in the Hunter Valley. vintagecaravans.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=runevent1&action=display&thread=7400I mentioned towing and going on the weekend commencing Friday 18th March through to Sunday 20 Its elcheapo for a powered site and hot showers will cost ya a buck. Seeing as though its February and tradional will have it that March follows Feb i reckon its about time we got our shit act together and made some sort of effort to confirm whos goin I know a few of the NSW V.V regulars have expressed interest in socialising with at Gresford. So.. nows the time to ask yaself am i gunna be there... or.. am i gunna be square.. Anyone wishing to roll up to my place about lunchtime or early arvo on the friday and head up there with me are welcome to do so.. I have looked at my diary and amazinginly i have noticed i will be sick and unable to attend work that arvo... .. If the boss is reading this .. Hello Ivan.. i am taking an annual leave day on the 18th of March... day after my birthday So.. With about 6 weeks to go.. Go back to the link.. check out the campsite ... and let us know who is in for a weekend of swimming ..campfiring( camp ovens.. stews .. damper) .. and a few beers ( mandatory ) Reddo

hi reddo
just spoke to colin and sue and they said that they're joining in for the weekend at east gresford.
so add them to the list.
now when are all the other sydney-newcastle - canberra v.v.ers going to add their names to the list.
(we might even think about becoming the local griddle operators for the weekend and see if we can outdo those bloody queenslanders with "extra special" griddle cakes.)
geoff 'n jude
will also check and see if marvin and family and andy and layla can make it.

Hi Geoff,
You southerners havent got a chance of catching up.
we are about to have a second Lennox Head weekend at the end of this month. Thats 2 in four weeks. 27 vans last weekend, who knows next one. You guys do 3 a year if your lucky.
Must be living in Paradise that makes the SE Qlder's willing to have more fun at the drop of a hat.
As far as griddle cakes, maybe some of you should come up to one of our events to see the fantastic organisation of the Banno & Joey crew.
Eat your heart out( I try to each time)

hi dennis
i think you're right - it's gunna be hard to keep up with the number of events you guys are having up there.
being an old lismore boy, i'm very familiar with lennox head and lake ainsworth.
we used to go to ballina every year for the christmas holidays and dad would often take us to evans or lennox head for a days fishing and swimming in the lake at lennox (in those days there was a big diving platform out in the lake that we used to 'misbehave' on - i guess that's been removed for safety reasons these days.)
the comment about 'keeping up with the bloody queenslanders' was directed at the griddle cake event, so we can still have a go at that side of things.
we really wanted to come up for the recent lennox event and would LOVE to come up for the next one, but unfortunately, tafe re-started on the 7th and that killed that idea.
don't know about the rest of us ns welshmen, but i'm very 'envious' of the number of getaways you guys are having up there - you lucky bastards. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Why not visit the the heart of the Hunter Valley-Cessnock for abit more action.
My parents own a BIG4 park up there plus another camp ground that excepts dogs.If there's a group of 10 or more I know they give great nightly rates (from $20 per night)& will organize free private wine tastings, discounted Hunter Valley Gardens Tickets, luncheons, winery tours etc. whatever you want to do. Plus check out the Kurri Kurri Nostalgia Festival on every year end of March & the country music festival on at Hope Estate first w/e in March.

Geee Reddo, Been trying to organise myself to get to Gresford... am going to make it I think. Thing is......... I have a prior engagement. It is Seniors week from the 20th March... and Driftwood and Ol' 36 together with Janorma have been invited to go on display at The Hunter Valley Gardens for the whole week..... just to help promote the vintage Caravan movement you understand .......... problem is I have a medical type appointment on the 17th .. don't know how long that will take but we will be able to make tracks on the 18th. for certain sure... but we will have to leave Gresford fairly early on the 20th I take it there is no need to book into the reserve at East Gresford Cobber.

Hi Cobber.. aaaah the price of fame. Ya cant be everywhere at the same time aye... I did consider proposing putting the weekend off until the following weekend so we could check out the Kurri nostalga festival during saturday.. then i thought... Nup.. bugger it... its vintage van weekend away relaxing without all the hurley burley of displays etc.....so it stays as is. Hope you and Yvonne can make it over for a night or 2. Just found out at work that friday the 18th March is Newcsatle show day and we get the day off..... woooooooo hoooooooo... So.... providing i dont have too many sherbets on Thursday night after work ( Birthday on the 17th) ... i should be up at Gresford around mid morning to stake a few claims on the powered sites before those pesky grey nomads roll in... Oh yeah.. No phoning and making reservations.. There is no onsite caretaker. Old Bert just rolls in late arvo and checks that all is peacefull and , then returns the next morning to collect the dosh for your site. He charged me $10 last time i had the van up there... probably be $12.00 for a powered site with 2 ppl..... cheap as chips aye. Hot showers cost ya a dollar.. drop the coin into the slot I mentioned firewood previously. Might bring some of the demolition remnants from the replica fugly project to help keep us warm... Reddo

We are keen to join in the weekend, but can only make it for one night due to commitments Sat Afternoon. Going to head up Friday Afternoon and join in. You are all going to have to look after us first timers. We are really looking forward to meeting others with now our similar interest in the old vans. We are heading up from Tumbi Umbi. Hi Humps.. Yup.. i am getting a bit concerned about the number of powered sites. I am almost certain there is at least 12... maybe 16 Just done the add ups including the 3 couples you pm'd me about ... Total is 15 vans Thats if Cobber and littlelivvy decide they are gunna be able to make it. Being a case of 1st in best dressed up there at Gresford we might have to look at sharing an outlet or... volunteering to go powerless if the need arises. I for one will be happy to do that so long as someone with power can boil the jug for a cuppa when i feel like one. There is plenty of electric BBQs so cooking isnt a big hassle. Never know who is planning on being there.\people /campers can just roll in at anytime. i know they have thier annual show there this weekend, so hopefully the place will have fallen back to sleep by the time we roll into town. I will try and run out some of that red stripey tape across some of the posts if i get there early enough to save some sites. Will phone old Bert and see how many powered sites they have there .. I'll get back to you shortly. Meanwhile those of you that have stated you are coming please be aware that power might be a bit of an issue... Generators update.. update.. Rang Bert .. there is 6 posts ( with 2 outlets ea) along a straight stretch in the reserve There is 3 more post ( with 2 outlets ea) up near the ammnities building. So we should be sweet .. providing the NSW caravanning assoc dont decide to drop on site... Bert alos mention there is more powered sites up near the showground.. told him we are not interested in that area.. wanna stick together.. Other thought is if it gets out of hand we could heasd over to Lostock Dam about 20Ks further on. I honestly dont think it will come to that..... Oh yeah... forgot to mention .. John and Pam Daniels ( the dominos spotty van) might be coming down from Muswellbrook as well. Bring 2 thin and crispy large supremes and a meat lovers with ya John and Pam... ;D Reddo

Hi Ya Marty and julie.. Yup ... you where already included in the head count of 16.. Will do what i can to save as many powered sites as i can.. Ya gotta remember the place is called "East Gresford CAMPING RESERVE".... was orginally developed for campoers in 2 man tents.... place has gradually been improved / developed by the local showground trust and i think maybe the local progress association. The 3 or 4 staino steel BBQs around the place are all recent additions. They have also upgraded the little old tin shed which i think use to be the mens and womans change rooms / toilets for people who have been swimming in the waterhole down below the reserve. ...... now it is just one big long open narrow room... be interesting if it has become a "mixed"change room..... Hi All Been looking at a few alternatives for things to do while at Gresford this weekend. I would imagine those of you that are coming up from sydney etc would be happy to just relax with a coldie and have a yarn.... or.. maybe not. There is a couple of 1/2 drives from Gresford that are quite picturesque. One is west to Lostock Dam.. about 20ks... windy road through a lot of small dairys to the Lostock Caravan Park and Dam... Might be worth a cruise and see if we would like to have a weekend out there sometime in the future. Other is a trip up over Binaburra rd to Dungog.... Home of Dougie Walters the cricketer. Lotsa little shops.. a cafe.. a pub or 2.. again about a 1/2 drive up a mountain rd and along the tops.. all tar road. Pub has an excellent counter lunch and the township could use the tourist dollar now that the Tillegeri dam project has been knocked on the head. The Beatty Pub about 500yds from camp has a nice bistro if we wanted to do Dungog or Lostock and come back to East Gresford for a meal at the pub. Now...... fa things ta do without driving ... the swimming hole is always popular ... a cookathon on the open fire sat arvo,,,,Maurie can show us how to make Griddle cakes !!! And....Last but definitely not least we will definitely be holding the inaugral Vintage Vans Qoits Challenge saturday arvo. I have spent no time or expense in creating the perpetual trophy for this prestigous event..... You would have to be potty not to enter.... ;D Umm that stain in the bedpan ... not too sure what it is...... tried scrubbing it but it has stuck like Sh!t to a shovel Anywho.... its all good . Catch ya up there... see ya the next trime i am lookin at ya's. Reddoldbedpansneverust.

Hi Reddo, Just so ya all don't miss out. Here is the recipe for (Drum roll... Du du daaaa!!!)
Griddle Cakes
Ingredients: 3/4 cup milk 2 Tlbsp. melted butter 1 egg 1 cup all purpose four 2 tsp baking powder 2 Tblsp sugar 1/2 tsp salt Directions: Put first three ingredients in mixing bowl and beat lightly. Sift together remaining ingredients. Add to the milk mixture all at once. Stir just enough to dampen the flour. Add more milk, if necessary, to make the batter as thick as heavy cream. Makes 6-8.
To cook: Test the griddle or frying pan for correct heat by sprinkling a few drops of water over it. They will "dance" when it is right. Heat the griddle or frying pan over moderate heat. Grease lightly with butter. Use a 1/4 cup measure to dip the batter onto the griddle or pan. Cook until the cakes are full of bubbles and the undersurface is nicely browned. Lift with a pancake turner or spatula and brown the other side. Serve immediately with plenty of butter and warm maple syrup. Lemon and Sugar.
Please pass on to Maurie.. ;D ;D ;D
Have a great get away.
Joey

Hi All Well thats another vint van weekend over and done with..... And what a great time we had.... Started out a bit ricketty. Because the camping reserve is not a caravan park you take pot luck that nothing else is on in town or no other group is planing to be there at the same time as us... I drove through Paterson and seen a big sign advertising some sort of horsey weekend at the showground which is just above the camping reserve...... panic panic.. where are we gunna fit 15 vans?? Come over the hill into Gresford and glanced down at the camping area... chockers full of tents... OOOOOOOOH NO. Got down to the site and i could see Geoff and Jude in a full pitched battle with about 40 other campers.... They had done us proud and managed to get the tenters to only take up half the powered sites. There was 3 or 4 other vans with Geoff and Jude so i took up residence up near the toilet block and spread my gear around to save a few powered site.. The "Pam"half of John and Pam from Muswellbrook had also scored a site with John coming along after lunch... Later in the day the vans rolled in one at a time Humptys, Marty and Julie Locke, The Parkers....Cobber and Yvonne turned up with both driftwood and Old 36, Later Maurie and Kate with the TD and 4 kids. Late saturday arvo and Madgirl with the freshly restored "Glen"van arrived. Weather was fair to good with the occassional drizzle. About 5 car loads of us went over for a cruise to Dungog where we walked the length of the town up and back down the main street checking out all the antique stores and vinnies. Nice lunch at the Bakery.museum.. etc... etc.. Mauries crew and i left earlier than the rest and head back to camp via Hilldale rd. Was getting late in the arvo and we wherfe starting to worry about them getting lost?? Turned out they had found a winery with a bit of entertainment in the form of a yankee playing a guitar. So they settled in andemolished 1/2 doz bottles of red. Needless to say they where all a bit chirpy on thier return to camp. I had to get away by mid morning due to a family committment at lunchtime. From all accounts everyone enjoyed themselves.... Might throw it on the calander for next year if anyone else is keen.. Heres a few pix... i am sure there will be more as everyone gets unpacked back home. Thanks for the great companionship guys.. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.... Maurie had managed to score a ticket to the neil diamond concert over in the vineyards at hope estate. This meant he had to take the Chrysler voyager that the 3 girls had been using as a bed. So i cleaned out the firewood and junk from the back of my panelvan and they set up a bunk in there for the night... I backed the old panno up to the TD and straight away everyone started saying i should sell it to Maurie and Kate?? No mention that i should by the TD...?? Ya gotta admit they are close colour match.. The weekend wasnt all just fun and games.... some serious scientific experiments where carried out... I have just installed a ionising smoke alarm while cobber has a photoelectric type.. so we decided to slam a slice of toast in the drop side toaster ...... and just let it burn The owner of the losing smoke detector .. the one that went off second was to eat the slice of burnt toast.. So we began... 2 detectors in the same spot on the ceiling mid van... plug in toaster.. insert bread and wait for smoke... and smoke ... it did We had just about decided that the atmosphere was getting beyond human habitation when my detector went off.... followed about 3 seconds later by Cobbers.. We decided that we would call it a draw... almost.. howeve Cobber got eat the toast... Geez i spoil him..... ;D ;D ;D Cheers all Reddo
