Best mate lives right on the Goondi Bend in Innisfail.Survived Larry a few years ago with only a few roofing sheets lifting. Not so sure his house will be as lucky this time.Only saving grace for himself this time is he`s landlocked on a mine site & no flights being scheduled home. cheers gordon

What do you say in a situation like this other than keep safe......it is inconceivable to think that a spectacular area like FNQ is facing such a threat.... Our thoughts and prayers are truly with atog, kiwi, bigkel, scootman and their families in Cairns and dave in Townsville and any other vintage vanners and their families in the area. Daggsey

Exactly, hope everyone stays safe, and the inevitable damage is limited My SIL signed a contract on a house in a reasonable area in townsville 3 weeks ago and hasn't been able to insure it as the insurance company's are refusing any new policy's, understandable I guess, but not something they thought about or expected when signing up A VERY nervous time for them, would suck to lose you house before you even got it... and then still have to pay for it...

Hi everyone in FNQ,
I guess the last thing you will be doing at this time is checking up on the latest postings on the forum. But even so, I'm sure I speak for every other V V'er in the country when I say that we are thinking about you, and hoping and praying for the well-being and safety of you and yours, and your communities.
Same goes for your son and his wife, Firefighter.

Hi to all FNQ people that are anywhere near the path of this Cyclone. Been following the news and watching its progress on the B.O.M site today before i went to work and again just now as i have arrived home. Bloody scarey stuff guys.... compounded even more by its arrival on the coast at night.
Hope everyone by this stage has sought safe refuge and they .. and thier belongings make it through this terrible weather event unscathed. Our thoughts are with you tonight.

Worst case of wind I've seen in awhile. ;D ;D Cairns missed the destructive winds that hit Mission beach, Tully and further south. Our place was definitely spared. We had worse winds and damage during Winifred and Larry. Mostly because this one was further south and the Cairns area removed lots of trees and debri during Larry. We had also removed trees and palms from the front of our place late last year in preparation for the cyclone season. Lost some branches in the backyard but the curlews survived ;D ;D ;D ;D Very glad no loss of life during this event. Cheers to all and thanks for all your thoughts Atog

Great to see you guys are all ok ATOG.
Have a good mate who lives/d on the water front at Mission Beach - not so lucky for the property.
But at least he is OK.

Hi ATOG,
Really good news to hear that you got through Yasi OK. Hopefully Bigkel and Kiwi got through unscathed or relatively unscathed as well.
I note that Scootman is on the Sunshine Coast now so he was out of danger.
We are having some pretty heavy rain tonight - a huge downpour on our roof as I write - nothing like what you have had, but a reminder of the power of nature. Apparently our rain has come out of the remnants of Cylone Anthony - incredible how big and wide the weather systems are.
Anyway, we are all glad you're OK.

Hmmmm rain, yes we had a bit here also, was thinking of going to Berwick swap in the morning but will be staying home to dry out my shed, spent a couple of hours keeping it out then the heavens opened and it was futile so I have a shed full of water AGAIN!

Living in Toowoomba beau you would know all about bloody water , fortunately for me when my shed floods it is only about 1/2" - 3/4" deep but when it's over 96 square meters under cars and cupboards its no fun even at that depth, problem is we cop all the water from across the road as well as the water from the road at the end of ours and it all finds it way to my shed cos the council can't keep the drains clear, I have it come across my front yard in a river about 30' feet wide and 2" deep and that is just a little to much to compete with when trying to keep it out, got out there today and dug a trench along the side of the shed ready for tonights downpour hopefully it will help keep it to a minimum should it get in, if it works and keeps it all out I will look at doing something more permanent. Here is a picture that my wife took half an hour after the strom had passed of the water flowing over the road and the water had subsided some what. and this is what it looks like as it flows down the front yard only remember the water has subsided. and then it goes next door as it flows behind the shed. You can see in the last pic there is as small amount of water flowing in from the left that corner of the shed is 7.5 mtrs away from the front which is the usual width of the flow but I've dug my trench where you can see the water so I've got my fingers crossed, time will tell.

Glad to hear all you guys from either side of the borders got through the storms ok. Mate flew in from Cape Flattery mine site (one pole damaged!) to Innisfail via Cairns & found his house was still standing with only one window shade blown off. Larry took the roof off last time.cheers
