G'day Col, Congratulations on the top award bit mate...... now regarding the woodie..... there are some illiterate simpletons on this forum . so I thought I would translate some of the above for them.....if it's OK with you . Some Jeeps, broncos and Pickup trucks used a Ford toploader transmission with a tower shift top cover. Some hotrod guys like to use it because it looks like an old timey trans, but is strong enough to live in todays world...(ford toploaders are as bulletproof as they come..427 AC cobras had them, so did all of the boss mustangs and torinos, big block as well as smallblock)
There were no exposed linkages like a Hurst. The shifter was mounted in the tower, moving the shift lever worked a set of rods inside the top cover which has the shift forks hooked to them. The shift forks hang down from the cover, into the trans, instead of coming in from the side.OK ? That should make it clearer for them..... pretty obvious when you think about it
