Hi All
We have been considering organising a w/e for some time.
Last w/e we visited this museum, which is by invitation only, and consider it a good venue for a vintage/ classic van outing, set on 20 acres. Hampton is about 25 klms north of Toowoomba.
Dates for consideration 19-20th and 26-27th Feb. 2011, and 5-6th March 2011.
The museum is advertised as model 'T' to HSV. In the museum building there are 80 odd cars, 80% Holdens of all models and other marques, as well a lots of other memorabila which would take time to view all. This may become Aust. caravan museum as it has Mark T's Dec. 2007 calendar van here and an Olympic coming, and we will most likely place #35 Olympic here when the next building is erected. the museum has been developed over the passed 4 yrs. and eventually go to a trust to be ongoing.
Besides the museum building there is another building referred to as the "workshop', this houses another 30 odd vehicles in various stages of repair. There is a few vehicles near the entrance / garden / and backyard to create the theme.
There is a nice grassed area adjacent to the museum entrance, where power and water will be available by 2011. Next to this area is a shadecloth shelter and a separate closed in shelter with BBQ, fuel stove and sink and a fie pit by 2011. Our caravans will be set up near this facility.
Amenities-- A new toilet block with 6 toilets and a shower will be set up in the next few weeks, another shower and toilet is attached to an on site cabin , ( which we used for our stay).
Cooking facilities / urn will be availiable all w/e if required.
Dining Area-- This venue can cater for 150-200 guests for a meal, indoor seats 50, and the remainder is undercover outdoor seating and 3x 4 burner BBQ's, plus a small stage if someone feels like carrying on. The indoor area has the old time juke box a huge collection of vinyl records.
Theme for the w/e suggestered is ' Rock-n-Roll' 50-60's style.
I will in the next few days, list other activities in the area on the suggestered w/ends, like markets / gardens/ swap meets etc.
the cost-- will be $50 for BBQ Sat. night dinner per head, or spit roast at $55.
This cost includes -- camping fees, entry fee to museum and dinner on Sat. evening. eg max $110 per couple for w/e.
We will post a few photos of the venue via 'bobandjacqui' who are prepared to assist with the w/e, and I am sure if further asistance is required to make this w/e a success others will come forward.
What we need from you by the end of October is--
Whether you will attend
Which w/e proposed would suit you, (these are the only w/ends available by the owners at this time)
The owners would prefer us to arrive on the Sat. am, however if you would like to come on Friday pm let me know and we will look at the numbers and put it to the owners if necessary, as their residence is on site.
This has been discussed with 'bobandjacqui' and 'dossie' so it open for your comments and indications. The numbers are important as the current figures are for 15-20 vans attending, but the more the merrier, as this is a great area to visit.
If you wish to chat about this MB 0428 850 666 .
Cheers boblor
