Is this sorted? (from a vauge memory ,in boating they did run the small 4 cylinder sidevales in reverse , but did not in a grey.) Back to basics. rocker cover off rotate until the timing ball comes into sight (~10 BTDC), check if 1 or 6 is rocking. rotate, watching valves opening, (the rocking pair should have the inlet continuing opening while the exhaust shuts) repeat until clear what's happening.

Hey there flattop, check out reply "18" got her going real sweet now and I'm still waiting for that nice day to paint it, just tinkering with bits and pieces while I wait.

Well yesterday was the first really nice day where I had a chance to get the motor outside and put some paint over her, let dry in sun while I have lunch then decide to push it back in shed, after some seconds of thought me thinks why not push it just that little bit further, so now it's back where it belongs, residing comfortably in the engine bay, this brings me just that bit closer to finishing my ute, I'm now looking foward to spending time in the shed after work now that daylight savings has started so it shouldn't be to long before I'm done, then I can get back to my teardrop.

Glad to hear you got it all sorted and running sweet If anyone's interested in persuing canadian grey motor myths, early Holden racing etc then check this link out: forums.autosport.com/index.php?showtopic=102031&hl=humpyIts long (18 pages) but I found it really interesting and with some great pics. Bit off topic for vv forum I spose but it is in the tow car section Cheers Doug.
