Heres a nifty little gadget. I think Belinda had some info on them a while back. I done a search and couldnt find the post so here is mine. Its called a "Teasmade" and is made by "Goblin" in the United kingdom. Model number is D25C. It can be used as a normal bedside clock It can be used as a bedside lamp. But its designed to boil the jug and fill your tea pot before you wake up in the morning. Just set the alarm and the heating element kicks in a few minutes before the alarm goes off. the water in the chrome square jug boils up and blows hot water into your tea pot that you can leave your tea bags in the night before. When the alarm goes off .. your "Teasmade". Now for the good news. ... Its for sale I want $40 for it plus you pay the postage. I will pack it carefully to ensure it turns up at your post office in one bit.... or i can bring it on the tour or to Coledale for payment and collection. Bad news is its missing the chrome lid off the jug and has a small chip out of the plastic body top corner of left light. Even if you dont use it as a jug and teapot you can still use it as a bedlamp!!! here is a link to a picture of what the lid looks like. cgi.ebay.com.au/VINTAGE-GOBLIN-TEASMADE-KETTLE-MODELS-D25-835_W0QQitemZ260150600945QQihZ016QQcategoryZ101424QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItemSo its over to you .. anyone want it I'll give yas until early next week and then it is headin for ebay. hmmmmmmm wander if Goblin makes a "beersmade" ;D Reddo

Hi Reddo
Robert and I are confirmed Teasmaniacs, having used one as an alarm clock for years. Our favourite is the 855 - the D25 had incomprehensible switches, the 860 had big clunky keys for controls and the Chelsea Teamaker's clock was too loud. The 855 also has a thermal plastic pot - not as stylish as the ceramic ones, but the tea is defintely hotter.
Your D25 is a desireable design, but sadly it won't make you any tea unless you find a kettle lid. You need a sealed lid so the pressure builds up and forces the water over into the teapot. I'd say the pot is also a ring-in - probably from a different model Teasmade. D25 pots have holes in the lid for the water to get in.
Don - if you get this my suggestion would be to check out the Teasmade site and chat with their Teasmaniacs. Like the vintage van community I've found them very helpful. Parts and pots for these come up fairly regularly on eBay, so if you are patient you should eventually get a working device (it's worth it). The other thing to look out for is the special Goblin tray which sits at the front for your tea cups and milk jug - very twee.
Funnily enough, I asked someone on the Teasmade website for technical advice and commented on the Citroen 2CV in his photo ("we've got one of those over here"). It turned out that he also has a Citroen DS (like us) AND a vintage caravan. Spooky. Maybe there is a hidden group of people out there who drive funny cars, holiday in funny vans and are attracted to strange British inventions. It makes you wonder .....

Reddo, Coledale will suit me fine if its ok with you.
Belinda. You are right about the lid.The Teasmade can get quite excited ( somewhat unusually for a staid little English gizmo) just as it comes to boil and often makes a quite disgusting sound as it displaces water from kettle to pot. But it does make a fine cup of tea.
regards don

Col and Bigdidda Cash AND Racoon skins + i get to keep the teasmade.... .... .... Ok its a deal. Gunna be the only camper at Coledale sitting in a 'Coon skin annexe selling freshly brewed cuppas from my Goblin Teasmade. Belinda. I am aware that the jug needs a lid to pressurise. I mentioned that in my original post so that everyone was aware that it isnt complete... I tried evrything from radiator to petrol caps ... all to no avail. The porcelain pot has a hole in the depression in the lid to let the water in. You cant see it in the photo ... but it is definitely there. Both jug and pot fit perfectly on the square locator bases. There is a spring loaded button/switch under the pot base. I imagine that is a normally open switch so that the power cannot energise the jug element unless the pot is in place pushing the switch down to the "on" position. No matter what . the thing still looks sitting up on any van table at night with the lights on. ...........Hmmmmmm must have been designed for posh people at Coledale with powered sites.... do they make a kero driven version for us "lesser types" down on "Kerosine Alley" Reddo... from the far side

I agree about the disgusting noise, which makes me wonder why Teasmades have such a loud buzzer as well. We had ours "de-buzzered" by an electrically-literate brother-in-law.
Reddo/Don, when it comes to improvising a kettle lid someone on the Teasmade website could probably suggest an alternative. From memory one of them used to work for VW and often suggested various VW seals and parts that worked.
I do like your pot - I haven't seen one with that nifty silver edging.

Hi Bigdidda, Spoke to the family back in the UK last week. Most of which are avid Teasmade users and general tea drinkers. My Mother and Sister-In-Law both work in different Charity shops. Have asked them to keep an eye out in regards to a lid for you. Don't know if anything will come of it, but you never know your luck. If they get lucky i'll let you know. I will also be down at Coledale, so if by some miracle a lid turns up - I can bring it along. P.S. Before anyone else asks - NO I am not offering my services as a general UK go between for parts, memorabilia, collectables, nics nacs, caravan bits etc etc etc. I get my family to do enough for me with regard to our own stuff. Regards Diane

Hi Guys,
i agree with Belinda on all counts. Growing up for a little while in England (and being born there) I have been exposed to Teasmades for years.
If bigdidda wants any photo's let me know. I have this model in perfect condition, complete with tray and can show you exactly what you should be hunting. I have/can also make repairs if you need any help. Cheers Chris
