Hi all you keen V V’ers,
Well, the 2010 Vintage Caravan Nationals at Mildura have come and gone and I think that everyone who attended had a great time. Lots of people have told us that they are already looking forward to the next event in two years’ time.
So…it’s time to start planning for the 2012 Nationals.
Quite some ago it was suggested that the 2012 Nationals should be held in WA, which is an exciting idea. However, after quite a bit of discussion and consultation in Mildura, it became clear that – much as many of us would like to travel to WA – very few people felt that they would be able to attend the Nationals if they were held in the West.
There were a few factors which people felt would make the trip impossible for them: (a) time – three weeks to get there and back, without allowing time for ‘seeing the sights’; (b) the inability of some people’s tow cars (and vans) to make it to WA and back; and (c) cost – the cost of petrol and other items.
The end result of this discussion – which included the West Australians who were at Mildura – was that:
1. The 2012 Nationals should be held somewhere in central west or south west New South Wales, so that they will be more accessible to the Queensland V V contingent.
2. Those people from over east who would like to travel to WA in 2012 can still make the trip and join one of the WA events, such as the Spring Tour, if the WA V V’ers are happy with that idea. 2012 will be the 10th anniversary of the Vintage Caravans website (as opposed to the forum), so it would be nice if some Easterners could join the WA V V’ers to celebrate this event.
The moderating team is currently checking out various possible locations in NSW for the 2012 Nationals, and expects to make an announcement in mid-August about the options.
The expectation is that the 2012 event will be held in late March, April or early May. We will be trying to avoid Easter, Mother’s Day, public holidays and any potentially clashing events which may be scheduled for the selected location.
SO STAY TUNED – WE’LL LET YOU KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO THAT YOU CAN BOOK YOUR SITE.
And to all those intrepid WA’ers who have made the effort to come to the last three V V Nationals – we want to thank you for making the trip. It has been great having you there, and we hope that some of you will be able to come to the 2012 event in NSW. We are just sorry that for most of us over east it isn’t an option to return the compliment by coming over to your side of the country.
