Hi Any truth in the rumour that the wintersun festival is moving to Port Macquarie NSW in 2011.?? If so do we want to organise a Vint van getogether in Port / Bonney Hills / North Haven for that long weekend?? If the rumour is true .. well then.. we need to get our act together and book a Van Park Pronto... Reddo

Hi Reddo.
Definitely in Port next year, & wont be back to Coolangatta supposedly for the near future. Heaps of cities in NSW want it, & it looks like its out there for sale to the highest bidder now each year.
It will be interesting to see how the festival fares.
I will miss the great atmosphere & weather that is part of Coolangatta, but as we all know weather just happens as it will. Probably Port, or Newcastle, or Wollongong would be just as good on a good day.
Better not waste any time booking for it, as the accomodation will get a big hit after this years event I believe

Yeah right JBJ
Even if we decided today to head to wintersun 2011 It will be impossible to ring and book a dozen sites just for us vanners ... so.... The next best thing will be to just decide on a park in ... or near Port Macq and let those that are going book thier own sites. I wouldnt mind betting most of the local parks are already pre booked.
So..... Either do some googling or throw up a park name and see what happens here.
I Think Lake Cathia is closer to Port than Bonney Hills. There is a park there!!

Hi John.. So what your saying is .....even with Port holding next years wintersun festival there is the likelyhood that there will be a winterfest still being held at coolangatta on the same weekend as Port Mac Reddo

Definitely on in Cooly next year.....40,000 flyers are at the printers now for distribution at this years event. They are also running a competition over this years event to come up with a new name with the Showcase Shopping Centre putting up a $1000 prize for the winner. Car Committee met last night and among other things the free entrants T shirt is back on the table plus no more late model cars the cut off is 1970, after all it is a 50s / 60s festival ;D ;D Southern Gold Coast Tourism has put up the seed money to fund a website, logo design, cover printing costs, advertising, etc and a temporary website should be up late this week, www.coolyrockson.comBoth the Coolangatta and Tweed Heads chamber of commerce have representation on the new committee as does the Qld Hot Rod Assn on the Car Committee ( yep you guessed it ..........yours truly!!) The Old Mal Surf Festival will also be back. It would appear some of what has been said in the local media by the current festival organiser is less than truthful with regards to the amount of support that is available from the local councils & bussiness houses, etc Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the info on Coolangatta for next year. I had heard that there was still going to be some type of event.
You mentioned that both councils will have representatives on the new committee - do you know whether Barry McNamara will be on the new committee or will he be going with the Port Macquarie lot?
Kind regards Diane

Wash your mouth out ............. Barry is the one who is selling the "wintersun" name/event to the highest bidder all over NSW . ......... that is why another event is being organized. Barry is the "current event organizer" I was referring to in my earlier post. Not a very popular person in the tweed/ coolangatta area at the moment is our Barry Apparently he even joked in the local paper a week or so back that he was not game to come to the inaugural meeting for fear of being "lynched' by the 250 plus people in attendance ;D ;D

Hi All,
I dont believe many will follow Mr. macnamara away from the event bing held at Coolangatta.
The event is the locality & atmosphere, not the manager.

Hi All Thanks for the replies and clarification. More than happy to hear that the event is staying where it has been traditionally held Will "Can"the idea of heading to Port Macq for now. Although i dont think Mr McNamara is gunna go away quietly and there probably will be an öpposition"event founded some where in NSW eventually. Its a shame that the waters have to get "Muddied "around what is a great event...I hope sanity prevails and the whole thing doiesnt become "Nomadic" and shift around the countryside ( QLD or elsewhere ) as dennis says... atmosphere and location is great. Meanwhile i will start saving and ensure i bank enough to cover fuel costs getting to Wintersun /Coolangatta and back next year..... Looks like being a wet one this year Reddo

I just got back from my first ever Wintersun and now see what I have been missing for so many years. Perfect location and atmosphere. We left bris at 4.30am this morning and got back late tonight but I'll definately try for a few days there next year. By chance my parking spot this morning was close to Sutcac and Jon-di and met with new members the Athols who have Dosse's old Athol Hedges van. My little Hillman has only half the cylinders of most of the cars there but so many people stopped to comment and my 21 year old rice burner loving nephew is now ready to get rid of his turbo Silvia and buy a classic with character. Our trip home was stopped at Broadbeach when I received a call that my mate's 57 Chev had sheared some wheel studs south of tweed heads so a trip was made back to assist but that is part of the fun with old cars on trips. Good luck to Steve and co for next year. I couldn't think of a better venue. Rollydog

Hi there Reddo, Just wanted to mention I work with Sundowner Breakwall Tourist Park and we are pumped for wintersun next year. It would be a shame to think regulars wont be attending so maybe we can work out a special deal to make it worth the journey for the vintage vans - hey and if you cant make it during Wintersun be great to get you all down this way at some other time of the year maybe even for the Australian Surf Festival in August Just out of interest saw a restored caravan today at the timbertown steam festival - very cool i think it was called a "Ruby?" Thanks Simon www.sundownerholidays.com

Hi Simon Thanks for the offer of a special deal for us vintage vanners for next years opposition event to wintersun. Much appreciated and i am sure that even though i wont be organising a run to port next June i am sure there might be a few of us amongst the ranks that might still take up the offer of a good deal from you guys on that weekend. We stayed at the White Albatross - Nambucca in 2008 and then headed to Bonny Hills park the next day on the 2008 east coast spring tour. The October Tour will kick off up that way again in 2012 so i will definitley contact you and see i can score a good deal on at least a dozen sites. Meanwhile.... may your park runneth over with visitors to wint...er .. sun.... errr,, winter festival June next year. there is now too much happening in the car and bike scene for me to make it to Port that weekend.. I am booked into Sawtell for the 2011 FB/EK Holden Nationals.. which happens to co-incide with the Coffs Harbour District Motorcycle club restore and ride rally held at the same venue Ride saturday with the bikes.. sunday show and shine with the cars... run between the Golf Club and the Bowlo for the presentation dinners.. ;D ;D ;D Wont have to worry about collecting trophys.. only trophies i have ever won was at the mens only fishing club outing ''.. "Fullest and Foulest- 1994" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Reddo.. 1960 Holden FB panelvan with trailer / Autotent / Norton
