Hi everyone, we recently bought this van vintagecaravans.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=forsale2&thread=6152&page=1From our recent research we believe it to be a 62 - 63 vintage Roma. (happy to be corrected) It is in excellent structual condition and very original, really only needing a minor face lift. So we have stripped it and are currently preparing it for a new coat of paint and a major polish job. The previous owners claimed it hadn't been used for 30+ years, this appears to be true as it is fitted with a completely unused set of Olympic Air Ride crossplys! including the spare! Our aim it to keep it very original, sadly someone has removed the original "ROMA'' badge from the front, if any one could post a close up photo of one that I could copy it would be greatly appreciated. Can't wait to get it on the road and travelling with our friends who have also recently joined up (stevem) and meet a few fellow V' Vanners ;D Cheers, Beau.

Hi Beau,
Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on the purchase of your Roma.
From the photo posted by Dmabp when the van was being sold, there appear to be some similarities with the 1962 Roma advertisements posted on the Down History Lane thread, but it is hard to tell from one pic. I guess you have had a look at that thread already?
Regarding the badge, Roma appears to have used a number of different types and styles over the years. From the post on the 1962 vans it appears that at that stage Roma were using a sign/badge consisting of red reflective letters on a base board. Given that there are two screw holes in the front of your van, that suggests to me that your Roma may have had a similar badge - the holes wouldn't be there if the badge was a sticker, say. If my suggestion is correct, you may be able to put something together yourself.
Alternatively it might be worth contacting Roma. They may have something in their archives that could be copied and/or give you more info about what badges were used at different times.
We'd love to see some more photos of your van when you get around to it. Instructions on how to do it via Photobucket can be found in the Helpful Hints section. (Photobucket provides a better result than just attaching a photo as Dmabp did.)

Hi Don, thanks for the welcome. I have attached the only photo I have for the moment but I will get myself into gear and open another PB account and post some decent shots. As you can see it is now all sanded back and has since found its way into the shed awaiting some new paint. In regards to the Badge you are correct that it was a screw on type, the lettering doesn't worry me so much as I do a bit of signwriting myself, but I would like to know what the original was made from, Ally?, ply?. As far as the year goes the closest one I have seen is Dave Petrusma's, (behind the Caddy under Roma) , he claimed that was a 59? I do however have a full page advert for the Electrolux Fridge that is fitted in a 1962 Motor magazine. I guess dating these can be fairly tricky... Lastly does andone know if the stripe on the side would have been factory or added later as it seemed over a 2nd coat of paint that didn't have a stripe as I was sanding it back. I do know the original owner gave it a face lift in 1967 and was wondering if it was added then?
