Hi, I bought this of the dreaded e-pay and it has arrived today. cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190067500136Can anybody out there tell me how I can clean the aluminium. As you can see it is in fairly good condition, but I feel that it could do with a bit of... er... buffing-up. I know when I have tried to do this before with elbow-grease, it just seems to get blacker and blacker and blacker.......... obviously needs a 'little something' extra. By the way the description is slightly incorrect... it is not 21" diameter (thank God) only 6" Thanks Cornish Lass

Cornishlass, I would kill for one of these things. Ol' 36 has no on-board water tank, and from what I have seen in various English DVD's and books dealing with vintage caravans this is the type of thing that was used, in fact what you have looks more original than the reproduction ones I have seen. To clean inside ..try one tablespoon of Borax in 500ml of hot water, rinse well. Outside..Try rubbing with a cloth soaked in cloudy ammonia then polish with clean rag. If that doesn't work send it over to me and I'll look after it for you . Cobber.

Hi Cobber Thanks for that information, will try to get hold of some Borax and give it a go tommorrow. Shame, but you have just missed a pair of similar ones on ebay in the UK recently: cgi.ebay.co.uk/PAIR-OF-ROMANY-GYPSY-CARAVAN-SHOWMANS-WATER-CANS_W0QQitemZ290064664441QQihZ019QQcategoryZ75486QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemPersonally I prefer mine, for the shape, vintage value and the PRICE Can you believe what people pay for their stuff!! Ones like mine to come up occasionally here in the UK. Do you want me to look out for them for you, after all.... you shan't be getting mine ;D ;D ;D Can't find the post, but Moondyne Joe wasn't a Cornishman (although with a name like Bolitho he ought to be), he was in fact Welsh. Hey, perhaps one of his relations bought the Fairholme over Cornish Lass

Whoops, for some reason that link didn't want to work Oh well it was UK Item Number 290064664441 in the completed listings for a pair of Romany Gypsy Caravan/Showmans Water Cans if you want to look. They were new.... nice and shiny, not a look for a VV, and sold for £82.00 plus £10.00 for postage That equates to $202 plus $25 for p&p. Cornish Lass

Cornish Lass, Personally, I prefer the one you have too. I would not be interested in those new fangled ones. If you see another "Caracar" give me a yell..although the postage might put me off. There is a bit of uncertainty as to where Moondyne was born, I prefer to think it was Cornwall
