Hi all, I've tried searching the WA licensing website for information on registering caravans but have not had any luck on finding information. So for anyone new to the world of vintage caravans. What are the things to be done to ensure your van successfully passes the "pits"? What are the "gotchas" and "must-haves" that will assist. I can imagine from all the extenisve experience available here in the forum that a good list could be generated to assist with registering a vintage van. Cheers, Stu

Hi Stu. This subject came up only recently. Its just the usual things you`d look for like it being structurally sound (chassis/ A frame),tow hitch/safety chain are secure & operational as too external lights.Likewise the wiring would have to be neat & tidy as well as a trip switch fitted being that the caravan is 240/12 volt. Off course tyres, & if brakes are fitted they`d have to be operational also. cheers gordon

I'm just going through this now in NSW and I just did it a couple of weeks ago for an old boat trailer. Here it's treated as a new vehicle if it's out of rego for 3 months and must pass all current standards. The thing that's brought me undone both times has been the tow coupling.
I've just spent this afternoon pulling off a perfectly good coupling on the Jennison to replace it with a flimsier Chinese one because the original doesn't have AS41773 and 2000Kg cast on the ballhead.
With the boat trailer I had to grind off a steel coupling to replace it with a piece of cast flim-flam because the old unit didn't have "weld only" on it. All for a trailer that weighed 100Kg and carried a 110Kg boat.
