How things change in 50 years.. To take a quote from the story in the magazine above
“.. One very fine entry called for a caravan 23 ft. long and 7 ft 9 in wide, and weighing 1 ½ tons – a self contained home which would require a large and very powerful car to tow it. Our advisors tell us that such a “van” would be a dream to live in but a nightmare for the average weekend motorist to drive. They might add it would also be a nightmare for the ordinary pleasure motorist to meet face to face on a country road! ..”
Today it’s common to meet 23 ft. vans face to face on country roads. The only difference is they are 8 ft 4 in wide and weigh 2 ½ tonnes.
