Hello wonderful VVers.
I have decided to take Bess (1960ish Carapark Zestline) somewhere over Easter and am looking for suggestions of somewhere to go that is not a traditional caravan park, don't need power or anything, just need it to be dog friendly and preferably near some water, river or lake.
I know you guys get out and about more than me, and come across some fabulous places so
Any suggestions??
I have recently started a full time job, so not sure if I can get away for the Nationals unfortunately, will see if I last in the job. If not, then of course I'll be there!
Cheers
Mel

Hiya Mel ,what about Bright.....lovely place and plenty to do and look at.....best way to check the dog issue is to look at 'puter and see what the local tourist bureau websites can offer you, cheers, Col.

Hi Mel
Up on the murray .. Jinjellic ... tintaldra. Not much in either town but right on the river .. tintaldra has a great camping site down near the bridge. I use to go there with the bikes years ago. No power.. no charge.

Hello Mel,
Warrnambool surfside caravan park is on the beach, approx 3 hours for you, can take dogs there at Easter, gets pretty tho.
Creswick (not to far from Ballarat) good van park, dog friendly, has a lake, nice small town and good food at the pubs.
hope this helps. Regards Shane

Hey Mel, Good to hear about the new job - sad to hear about the implications for you coming to Mildura though. In the end a job is probably slightly (but only slightly ) more important than spending a week away with a bunch of extremely nice and friendly V V'ers... ;D ;D ;D On the question of dog friendly caravan parks, I know you said you were looking for something which is not the 'traditional caravan park'. But if all else fails, you could try the Doggy Friendly website which lists dog friendly parks state by state. There are a surprising number of places available. It also lists horse friendly parks, which is useful should you wish to take old Dobbin along for the ride! ;D ;D ;D For what it's worth, I seem to remember that the Chiltern caravan park is a very open sort of park - quite small, no fences, near a small lake and within a block or two of the main street. So that might meet your requirements... At the opposite end of the scale is the Tarra Valley Dog Holiday Park where each caravan is parked in a fenced in enclosure so that your doggy friend has its own run. Even more amazingly they have luxurious 'day-kennels' where you can leave your friend when you want to have a dog-free day. Each kennel is complete with a TV and VCR so that your dog can watch its favourite canine oriented movie - all provided. Check out the kennels on the website - they're more luxuriously appointed than some homes! Probably not the sort of place you were looking for for Easter though I guess!! Don Ricardo

Hi Mel. I go to the Picnic Point Caravan park at Mathoura NSW . It is on the Murray, dog friendly, open fires, powered or unpowered sites, small beach. Great place for a relaxing lay back holiday. Mathoura is about 30 miles from Echuca heading towards Deniliquin so is a good trip from Melb. They have two Pubs, small supermarket, the best butcher shop in Australia. I know it's a big statement, but they have great meat.

OK, cool. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. After much phoning around, and realising that I really haven't done enough research to be going too off-road this time, I have found a space at Mt Buffalo CP Porepunkah (yes, very near Bright!!) and the guy there was really really nice. So, I am sorted. Thanks everyone! And if you are in the area, drop in and see us at Lakes 9 spot, just inside the entrance gates on the right, I will be flying the VV flag..... Have a great Easter everyone! Mel

Had a great Easter at Mt Buffalo Caravan Park, right on the water, under some weeping willows, perfect weather, happy dog, bike tracks galore and lot's of talking toot around a fire. Noice. Mel
