Hi Dosse,
Tara camel races are Easter 2011, Retirees tour was a spontaneous event last year that most SE Qlders wouldnt have been able to get to.
I reckon we have 4 functions so far this year from Sutcacs list. When you add a lot of Hotrod based events that a few of us go to, like Yamba, Coffs Harbour, Toowoomba, Bright, & others, there are heaps to do for a lot of us.
We've always had around 4 events a year, much more than that will separate the group into retirees & workers I believe.
I also believe the events are leaning towards the North of Brisbane, which is expectable because the majority of members live in that area.
But I'm only one person. And I believe no one person should ever be allowed to control whats happening. We a group with everyone having the rights to their say. If that changes we will lose members. As it is our initial core of members do not all attend events, but thats evolution.
I will only be attending the events I wish to go to from here on in.
I see problems maintaining numbers in attendance with a higher frequency of events, & the available locations will be harder to find. We've seemed to agree in the past not to duplicate places, except for Canungra & Neerum Creek.
What happened to our spontaniety with different people coming up with new suggestions??
As one that has been here from the start, I think we all should look at how enjoyable our events have been, & try to continue the casual & informal structure we have had to date.
Dont keep going back to the same places, & spread them out. Sure some wont be able to attend the more distant ones, but as long as we can keep the majority happy, & not get too formalised, it can still stay fun.

People will always pick the VV events they choose to go to. Which is the beauty of this group - there is no obligation to attend each and every event or location. I don't think we should start bogging ourselves down with having "set" annual locales. There seem to already be two (Neurum Ck and Canungra) which in my opinion is plenty, especially when you consider the numbers that also go to Coledale (which really is a NSW event). Personally I do like the spontaneously organised events and "surprise" locations. Don't think we should stymie that initiative. The size of the group that goes to any one event is really irrelevant, it's the fun you have with those who are there that's important. Would hate to see it become a numbers competition, and judging the quality of an event on the numbers who came. I may not go to all the Qld events, for varying reasons, but the ones I do go to, I enjoy! That's my 2 bob's worth!!! Ray

An area not explored is around Warwick or even Stanthorpe. I remember taking a group to Top of the Town Caravan park in Stanthorpe many years ago and they arranged a bus for a winery tour on the saturday (4 different wineries) with lunch etc and that night we all enjoyed a meal and a sample of our day's pickings. Somewhere in my notes I have details of a good park near Warwick that was interested in hosting our group. This area is good for both brisbanites and southern members. If anyone wants to run with that send me a PM and I'll get you the details to make further inquiries.
Clyde is right. Summer venues need water (Mudjimba has beach and pool and cold beer at a Country RSL down the road) and cooler times need open fires etc. Canungra is a benchmark for a great venue but there must be similar showgrounds etc around. It is something thatcan be thrown around at Mudjimba Rollydog
ps. Has anyone tried Island Reach Camp Ground at Imbul? It is a bit of a climb over the range or go in from the highway south of Gympie but several trips there years ago were good. Low key camping by Little Yabba creek, a covered eating area for groups and a country pub just a short distance away. It is on my list for a weekend sometime this year but from what I remember there was plenty of grassy camping, some fishing and canoeing in the creek, a cold beer at the pub and plenty of areas to walk the dogs.

Hi Is this a misinterpretation by me as an attempt to change away from Canungra. Rollydog stated. Canungra is a benchmark for a great venue but there must be similar showgrounds etc around. This comment surprises me, as I thought we had all agreed Canungra is ideal for our xmas bash. Camp kitchen 20/10 camp oven cooking area 10/10 heaps of sites for caravan just roll up stake your claim 10/10 Swimming hole for all. 10/10 Close enough distance for all to travel 10/10 amenities 4/10 Can make as much noise as we want 10/10 and the list of WHY goes on. If it ain't broken leave it alone. Boots.

Boots, Yes you did misinterpret. That is why I said it was a "benchmark for a great venue". It has been mentioned that we try different locations etc for other times of the year so maybe there is another showground with similar facilities. I just did a google search on on "Show Ground Camping" and came up with many results which gives an idea for others to explore the possibilities. Canungra is one of the few venues we will ever pencil in for each year. Whilst the sunshine coast has been the destination for previous plus this February events they have all been at different venues, all with beach access and other facilities. Like everyone else I thought Canungra was the best event we have held and I am sure the boy and girl racers enjoyed the driving simulators as an extra bonus last year . If you wish to clarify my meaning on something like this it may be easier to PM me to clarify as everything about Canungra is 200%positive by me. Rollydog

G'day All Lots of input about the best venue for our south-east group And I agree that we should not do repeats unless we come across a place like say ( Canungra ) why would we When we have so many great places to pick from and we are not restricted by the weather. ( Best days to tow your Vintage Van in the great SE Qld would be all 365 of them ) Neurum Creek is off our repeat list this year and most of our group will not be going down to the runs down south, Not because they don't want to But because of other commitments . I propose we try Ferry Reserve Holiday park at Brunswick Heads. Reasons why. 72 Powered sites ( ON THE RIVER ) Covered BBQ Convenience store Dog Friendly ( Conditions Apply ) Free Courtesy bus to local clubs ( Friday Night ) Free beer ( If you are over 80 years old & accompanyed by your Mum ) ;D ;D ;D Short walk to town centre and beach. Love to get some feed-back on this one. The dosse's

Hi all. In reply to the Dosse's. I did check out Ferry Reserve sometime ago as well as the other 2 in town, looking for that "weekend away". Really hard to say which is best cause it depends on conditions. I am actually still waiting for that weekend away at Brunswick so i'm with you. (only an hour away) The markets are very good on the 1st saturday of the month. (but i suggest a short drive instead of a long walk) and dogs are not permitted on the market site but there is a nice park right next to them.
In reply to the calender, Mt Warning Caravan Park was once mentioned by JBJ but only in passing. This park now allows pets, fires, and group camping but the only thing to do is climb Mt Warning or visit the local villages. Phil.

G'day All I have just phoned the Terrace Reserve park and asked about the long-weekend in April which is the Anzac day week-end, Its peak time with a min of 3 nights @ $58 per night per van. They can get about 10 vans by the river and others not to far away. Is anyone interested in this as a group week-end. Regards dosse.

Hi Sutcac,
Its raining here at the moment, & fairly cool, & prediction is showers tomorrow & weekend. Its been raining since lunchtime, & reasonably heavy at times.
But the weather varies so much from area to area. Wadeville is an hour from us, so we are going to contact the site soon, & probably check tomorrow around 9 am.
I'll post the forecast/situation then

Hi all we were talking about the next place to go, & a few liked the idea of Jondaryn Woolshed www.jondaryanwoolshed.com/01_about/01_about.htm#accomThey have the Qld Heritage Rally on there 7,8,9 May when they fire up all the machinery, including vintage aircraft this year. Otherwise it's late August when they have it all up & running again at once. Bit colder in August, but is May too soon again? You can have dogs as long as they're "under control". Brilliant display of working machinery. Bet the organisers would be happy to see a whole bunch of vintage caravans! Whadya think? Cathie

Count us in maybe the first weekend in October or in December as the year is getting away from us again. We are having so much fun going away in the van. For the Brunswick Heads van park and the market is on the first saturday for the market goers.
