Hi All ;D Been Siitin down the "Shed of Invention" mulling things over for "things to do in 2010".. NSW .. and surrounds. I know we have had great success at Coledale with the Breast Cancer fundraiser / auction this year thanks to Geoff and Judes organisation /effort and enthusiasm. Something that everyone that bid .. bought and participated in cab be proud of.. $800 was a great effort.. Also i acknowledge that we will be doing something similar this year at Coledale for "Bowel Cancer"... mens issues .. that a lot of us blokes are too "Blokey "to discuss. Been giving a lot of thought to how we vanners can use the "crowd pulling power " of our old vans and cars to raise a few bucks for Cancer research. ..... all the while still enjoying an NSW Getogether. Sure .. we all derive great pleasure from catching up with old mates, enjoying each others company and generally just shooting the breeze about vintage vanning. But wouldnt it be nice to walk away from another one of these events knowing that our time and effort that had been put into our vans and cars has been the core behind raising money for those poor bastards that can't get out and enjoy things the way we do due to that mungrel deases I know NSW is a big place and we have a few established runs on our plate this year .. as well as the Nats. I also appreciate that we all have work, family commitments that dictate that we can't get away and enjoy or great hobby as much as we would like to. Sooooooooooooooooooo,,,,.. Here is a plan... How's about we give up "Christmas in july"" at Katoomba for an ïndoor venue "capable of holding at leat 20 or 30 towcars and vans overnight... ....yummmm.. waaaaarrrrmmmm. Its across the road from our house....,OK, OK, Ok.. stop it now. I know i havent got far to travel... but the bonus is ...I reckon i can talk the owner of the 400 metre by 50 metre main road frontage wharehouse into a short term 3 day lease .. especially if he knows we are having an "öpen to the public"during the day .. fund raiser. How could he not say "YES" Some of you have seen the building . It use to be an old Kitchen factory. 3 big roller doors facing North . 3 doors facing the main road. I havent managed to check out the Kitchen /toilet/ bathroom facilitys ( this is the stumbling block at the moment). But the shed is massive all under the one roof .. one level.. concrete floor....and.. the landlord is desperate for tennants. Every day i look at this giant white elephant and think...Waddabout a van show. . which would include its fair share of classic towcars. The way i see it if we can get some sort of enthusiam happening from NSW and visiting interstate members ..early i can go head down / bum up and promote the weekend locally .. newspaper, TV, Radio..letterblox flyers... etc.. . Plan would be to allow the public in the shed from saaaaaaay.. 9.00 am to 5 .00pm on saturday .. enough time to shovel out the stubbies and make ourselves presentable to the "Donating Public"" Still have our friday and saturday night Yulefest celebrations. Locked away from the public. Sunday can be something similar but those that have to travell can get away early need be. Dont build too much out of yet another hair brain idea from the shed of invention"" . The landlord might want a gazzillion bucks insurance before he opens the roller doors. I Have seen the place open for 1 day clearance auctions , art sales etc... soooooo...Ya never know. I need some sort of response from you guys.. waddya reckon?? Do i put down the stubby and go to bed .. or.. if ya willing i will go hammer and tong for the next 6 months to promote the idea .. Caaaannnnnnnnnn guys.. Katoomba was Freeziin.. and even if we only raise a few bucks we can always say we tried. Reddo

Hi Reddo, Im all for the shed idea but I dont think we should give up Xmas in July in the mountains as that was in my top 2 Nsw runs for the year.Im so looking foward to that event at Katoomba this year. Im keen on the shed idea but maybe August September or November.Just my opinion. Cheers Dave

No doubt about it 'arold..... you're a rat bag If you can make this scatterbrain idea work you deserve all the support we can give you. The idea is unique.... the cause is good... you would need to get the local media on board to have it pre-publicised so great hoards of paying customers crowed through the doors to experience the once in a life time opportunity to visit a one day museum of Vintage Caravans... AND support a worthy cause. I understand that what you need is for ..PEOPLE TO PUT THEIR HAND UP AND SAY THEY WILL BE THERE so you can go ahead with the hard bit.... organising the details. My hands up Cobber.

Hey Reddo. Put Linda and I down for a spot depending on when you are going to have it, we have a couple of things organised this year already. We too would still like to go to Katoomba again if you can organise around that. ;D Richard.

We'll let you know as soon as we can Reddo........we were going to incorperate the Wintersun with our annual holiday, but the school holidays don't begin until July.......so 6-7 weeks might be too long for junior to be out of school!

Hi All Thanks for the feedback thus far. Yeah ChippyDave i am hearing you. Christmas in July at Katoomba is a great hoot. So... maybe best leaving that where it sits . Those that went last year will come a bit better prepared for the sub zero festivities in thë Camp kitchen.. aka .. disused toilet block... Hey its moments like those we experienced in 2009 that make vinatge vanning soooooooo memorable.. and .. fun. Seeing as though there has been a bit of interest from those a long way from Reddoville i was sorta thunkin' maybe we could kick off this years East Coast Spring tour with the display on Sunday .. then move out on Monday morning. Maybe roughly retracing the steps of the first east coast tour in reverse ... but stops in different towns . Last night ( wednesday night ) in Katoomba van park. The 2 plusses with this idea is that those that usually travel down from QLD and up from Vic arent having to do a stack of miles to attend 2 NSW events a few months apart. The other plus... If we create enough interest at the display we might get a bit better coverage by the media while we are on the tour. ;D.. and maybe Coledale might get a bit of a shake by the media again. Try and drum up a bit of hype like Cobbers Vintage caravan capers back in the 90's Something along the lines of the Variety club bash .. except a bit more low key.. Possible make up a sash .. or .. / Sticker for each towcar that clamps across the top of the windscreen.. "Vintage caravan tour.. Cancer appeal". Perhaps i should stay off the turps. One step at a time. Now that the idea seems to have some sort of backing at the moment ( 8 hands up) . I can chase the old mate that keeps the lawns mowed over at the warehouse and see if i can have a look around inside at the ammenties. The shed use to employ around 100 staff so i would imagine there is plenty of toilets etc. Need to check for male and female crappers etc.. showers etc. There is a Kitchen / lunchroom area... but we shouldnt need that. After all.. we a re hardened campers.. 15Amp outlets.. oooooo.. bugger.... Gunna havta roster out toaster timing so we dont melt the shed wiring... bring ya own impact drill to put your tent pegs into the concrete..... Ooooooooooo Bugger.. this is gettin tecknuckle ;D Ummmm.. I'll get back to ya's longly. Might havta form a committee ;D Reddo

;D hi Cruz.. Good to hear your keen on the idea as well. If we go with my last proposal then we would be looking at camping o/night at the shed on saturday 9th .. display day sunday 10th and leave on the east coast tour monday 11th October. upper hunter.. Dubbo.... Mudgee Last night of tour at Katoomba van park.. down the mountain across to Bulli and.. Be at Coledale around lunch time Thursday 14th . School returns Monday 11th. Dont go organising and time off work until A... I yarn with the shed owner. B.. someone confirms that Coledale is 14th to 17th Oct this year. Other thing to keep in mind is that if people dont wanna tag along on the tour then they can clear out monday morning and do the 3 1/2hrs run south straight to Coledale. easy peasy Reddo

Hi all.. Nuther step closer with the planning for the display day. The warehouse has been for lease for the past 12 months. No businesses have moved in . There is now a "For Sale"sign on it and i just bought it ... Gunna open a vintage caravan museum... ,, D ;D ;D ;D Naaaaaaaaaaaa... Just kiddin'. I rang the real estate agents number that is plastered across the door the front of the billboard out front today. They passed on my details to the owner. Old bloke rang me t'sarvo. I explained our plan to him. He didnt seemed real interested in talking about the dollars to lease the shed for 2 nights and run riot..... um ... run a van and car show in there. I kept asking how much and he mentioned that everyone else that had held auctions ...and the RTA that lease a small area to store drums of soil samples ... more or less gave him nothing. He seemed a bit flustered that we where planning a do in October and i was ringing him about it now. I explained that we had people expressing interest from interstate and we just need a yes of no to the initial idea of a Cancer appeal fund raising event using our cars and vans and .. maybe like Sutcac suggested .. a few car club vehicles invited along on the day . Bit of a silence.. weeell.. i cant see a problem with it.. sounds like its all for a good cause.."". Hows about you contact me again around July to discuss this further. I said again. HOW MUCH $$$ do you require for 2 nights?? Oh.. I dont know..... !!! This is gunna be difficult guys.. he is what i call a bit of a "floater".. cant pin him down to a yes or a no. So.. for now we can take it as a Yes. Providing the whole complex doesnt sell before October... If the bum falls out of it all . We can still kick the tour off on saturday from one of the local Lake Macquarie van parks... Wangi Wangi.. www.lakemac.com.au/holidayparks/photo.asp?parkid=4Swansea... the last park we stayed in on the 2006 tour www.lakemac.com.au/holidayparks/photo.asp?parkid=1Belmont pines .. last camp on the 2008 tour... www.lakemac.com.au/holidayparks/photo.asp?parkid=3or .. If Tickos can swing a deal again for us we could have a start from one of the NSW May getogether van parks.. Go old Munmorah.... ;D So... I guess i just let the Cancer Appeal idea simmer on the back burner until June /July. Old mate said he often drops into his sheds. if i spot him a will grab him and show him what our vans are about. That might either convince him he needs to be a generous old mate.. or .. after a tour of the shed of invention...Liken me to Alice Cooper ( blood and burnt flesh everywhere) and scare the crap out of him. Lets Hope old mate doesnt get a sale for his shed.. and is still receptive to our plan for October. Fingers crossed. Reddo

Nothing wrong with Alice Cooper Reddo........I've got 33 albums! lol
Ok, so when roughly do you think the display will go ahead? We're going to leave on June 8th & head up the New England & join in at the wintersun on Friday. Then head further north & return around July.
If it's around October then we should be ok anyway..........Adam

Hi Adam If all works out OK The display day will be Oct 10th. Sutcac mentioned finding anthor venue locally. I will have a sniff about for a vacant warehouse thats capable of holding up to 20 cars and vans + . The local vintage and classic bike clubs are looking for a similar venue to hold a combined clubs M/C display. so... if i stay "Paly"wih them i might get a lead from them. Would be best held in an enclosed shed rather than in an open area or caravan park. oh.. and yeah Kaybee.. we can hit the $20 all ya can eat restraunt on saturday night Reddo

Hi all You old van tragics... I havent dropped the baton on the display idea yet... Managed to catch the old bloke who maintains the ground around the wharehouse today. He had the shed open so i approached him about having a look around inside.... My main concern was toilets and shower facilitys. There is two seperate ammenities blocks in the building one i looked at has 4 showers and 6 toilets. So.. even if we have to roster .. girls and boys shower times should be OK. ( what??? no mixed showering.. bloody hell i aint goin') Here is some photos of the building. Owner is away on a 7 week cruise on the QE2.. Old mate reckons he is a millionaire ... but hasnt forgotten that his family where near broke and battling when they came over from Holland when he was 7 years old.. and then made thier own fortune. I figure even if he hits us up $10 a night each van its still heaps cheaper than paying for a powered site at a van park. I will try and get him to waiver that in leiu or us making a donation ourselves to the Cancer foundation. Here is some photos of inside and out.... Here is the entry from the back of the sheds.. Straight across from my driveway viewed from the back looking west.. the furtherest bay is leased by the RTA and are storing core samples from drillings along the route of the new Bypass road that will link Seahampton to Branxton.. Roller doors are 6 metres wide so sugarshack should just mamage to scrape the big Ford in Couple of shots of the main road frontage... The sheds finsh down near that telepole on the right. The brick house was the main office This is the front of the place where i figured we could hold people to ranso... ummm.... ask for donations Entry through the roller door with the graffitti on it. plenty of room along the front for a car club display and a 40 car car park on the eastern end of the building near my place. Here is what we are interested in.. the insides... obviuosly due to "ground compaction"we wont be hammering in annexe pegs... nor should we need them with an undercover venue....Oh .. and although they have a large extraction system i think we can rule out campfires Bear in mind that there is no walls from one end of the building to the other ... its massive inside... minimum overhead beams would be around 3.6 to 4.0 metres high. So no worries unless your driving a double decker bus. Plenty of power points around the wall... not sure how many are 15amp outlets but if we use the power conservatively for boiling jugs ( ummmm.. thats jugs that are fit for use Kris Kaybee ) we should manage to avoid blacking out the neighbourghood. If we wanna get out of the shed after a big day sunday we can wander across the road to my place and have BBQ and a swim if yas feel like it. I also mentioned on another thread about a film night at the private Cinema at Edgeworth.... maybe head there after the $20 all we can eat meal at the local RSL .. will worry about that side of things later.. just happy that i am one step closer to getting the shed sorted out... Thats about it for now.. Oh yeah .. have spoken about the display to a few mates that own auto businesses in the area. Most have suggested that i hit em up for a donation of a raffle prize ( was a Sutcac suggestion earlier on in this thread) or a dollars donation so long as they can advertise on a display board somewhere near the entrance... People wanna chuck money at me... ::)sounds OK to me. The more we raise for The cancer mob the better. Its all good... so far.. ;D Reddo

Good work Reddo, Let me know if I can help out because I'm not far away. The key to the owner might be to make him feel important rather than off him money (which small ammount doesn't seem that important to him). Something like asking him to present trophies or something might have more impact than $
