Hi Guys
I know i am guilty of taking a swing at certain brands of caravans but it is all in jest .. i think by now you realise that.
I am usually the first to step in and quell and Ford V Holden wars that start up on the forum.
The same old tune... this is a forum about Vintage caravans....
However i cant help but echo the same question that Brendan has asked...
"What is it with these new Fords"
??
January last year i traveled from Newcastle to Goulborn in the HR ute with a trailer load of motorbikes in 40 degree heat.
I passed 3 late model Falcons on the side of the road with steam guysering out from under the bonnet!!
I stopped for one bloke who had his missus and 2 young kids with him. I offered water for his radiator. He replied "What radiator". The plastic top on the radiator had parted from the rest of it.
On the way home we passed another 4 late model fords ... the last combo made me smile and give the old 186 Holden a pat.
Near Gosford i came across a new falcon wagon on a carfloat.. obviously couldnt proceed in the heat so his mate had come to the rescue and loaded the wagon onto a carfloat behind his late model Falc sedan..... Then it suffered the same problem. Smoke and steam from under the bonnet.
I again pulled up to see if i could help.. It appeared that the tow car had blown a head gasket or some other similar problem. It was still running but sounded terrible.
I have since found out that the radiators are crap... well durrrr.. i sorta figured that out.
The ford sixes have 8MM ... yup 8mm
...head studs that tend to snap off while undoing them due to them corroding / electrolysis
.
You can by a $125 top end gasket set which the dealers say will last about 12 months....
Or you can buy the super deluxe $250 gasket set that SHOULD last about 3 years.
I think they forgot to mention that all of the above applies until the temperature on the day gets over 28 degrees
Meanwhile Harold Reginald the HR Yoot still has the same radiator full of green juice in it that he had when i left Newcastle a few weeks ago. It went close to boiling a few times towing the van... But didnt.
So... what is it with these new Fords.
Not being nasty here.. in fact Geoff and Jude . and now Gristy and co have my sympathy.
Reddo...
footnote. No new commodores found dead on the side of the road back in january or on the way to and from Mt Gambier??
