Hi guys, After speaking to a several people at Coledale, apart from the nationals in May which a fair few said they couldnt make,Reddos xmas in July is the only weekend away that is pencilled in as a goer. Tickos said we can get Lake Munmorah back which is great, but I dont see to much confirmed over the next 8 months.Last year we had Berry in March which wont be on.I know we can fit something in when we hear there might be an event on somewhere between now and then. Any ideas. Cheers Dave

Yeah Dave... i'm hearing ya... Bit of a drought on van runs in NSW Not sure wether the NSW caravaning assoc will invite us back again next year... March @ Ballina. I have been mulling over the idea of a weekend with the vans up at Port Stephens/ Hawks Nest around March / April... no not easter. Or maybe Gloucester??? Spyder mentioned that he is heading up that way for a weekend next year .. Not sure wether its with the H.A.T.S group or not. Forster/Tuncurry is also good. So... can anyone else throw up any suggestions??. Lets get the ball rolling and get off our arses NSW Reddo

Hey fellow VVer's,
I was actually going to suggest doing something sometime after the New Year, and also suggest if people were interested that it may be a good idea to make the venue central to the majority? (minimise the excess travelling).
We don't want to wait until April/May to do something.......the best weather is gone by then, of couse we'll be having alot of weekends away over Summer, but it's always great to get together with like minded people and enthusiasts.

Now look what ya gawn and done Dave... You have got em thinkin Kazandadam.. ;D The problem we have with "Majority " is that it can be defined in a few different ways. The Majority of the NSW van owners are .. from what i can make out.. based in .. or around Sydney The Majority of the regular contributors to this forum that might have a say on where to go are scattered far and wide across NSW The Majority of those hardened soles that might actually attend a run is again scattered far and wide... Add to that the issue of travellling a moderate distance after work on a friday on a normal weekend and ya just aint gunna please all of da people all of the time So......what to do.. where.. and.. when... Bloody difficult to get concensus on "when and where to go" In the passed we have found that someone needs to grab the cat by the throat and say.. "I have just booked 10 sites at Blah, blah, blah.. who's coming??" Usually saves a million messages , people are in , or out, that weekend and the job gets done without too much fuss. Me?? The windscreen is just a travelling picture show.. 4 or 5 hours in any direction except east out of Newcastle and ya can almost be certain to put my hand up to be there... Spring /summer .. coastal Autumn /winter.. the bush with a campfire and bush tucker.. My backyard will hold about 8 vans as a venue.. We have a massive warehouse across the road that the landlord is having trouble renting out (hmmm might be the neighbours that are scaring the leasees off.. ).. its about 1/2acre inside.... how cool would an indoor camping venue be? I reckon old mate the landlord would jump at opening the sheds up for us for a night or two.. showers and toilets there too.. 10 mins to Lake Macquarie, 20mins to the surf. 20 mins to the mountains, 1/2 hour to the Hunter valley vineyards Ok, Ok.. just thinking with my fingers on the keyboard.. another hairbrain idea from the shed of invention. Its back to you... Reddo

May I suggest shannons show and shine in canberra in March. 800+ classic /vintage vehicles of all ethnic origins! to look at and whilst a formal car show there are no prizes or judging , just turn up to fly the VV flag on the sunday and park your beast in the designated area on the lawns of old parliament house. An amazing range of cars to look at . VVs and towcars have their own spot RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE, on king edward terrace between the art gallery and questacon . Starts at 9am and finishes at 2 to 3 pm to allow travel time for those heading home sunday.White Ibis van park just outside canberra 5 mins from my place about 15 mins from old parl house, pub 500 metres down the road from the park , an easy stagger. A number of wineries nearby too! Just ask koala, a good show and good time of year weather wise. The park has great kids amenites , dam , paddle boats, games room and is a popular base for ,and keen to cater to, car clubbers(or VV networks). Pub will usually put on a VERY good local band if they know there will be a crowd or BBQ at my place sat nite heaps of room, large murray cod and silver perch to catch (and release) in my dam and could probably saddle up the 35 yr old welsh mtn pony for some kids pony rides.(yeah OK Reddo you can have a ride too - its just my size , my feet never leave the ground!!) jennison

Yeah Reddo I thought my 'majority' might get a reply after I posted it! I guess I was thinking inside my '300km' area, a triangle from Canberra to Sydney through to Newcastle & down the South Coast.
Two things, maybe different areas of NSW might like to organise something closer to where they live & two, reason been, time is limited to travel for just a weekend away (for those of us who unfortunately aren't retired)
Only suggestions though.......anywhere on the water would be good, remember we got baked at Berry this year! But with me been green, some of you long time VVer's would have been to lots of nice places.......any suggestion there?

The Gloucester event is NOT a HATS event. Places for consideration.........Toowoon Bay has plenty of van sites, on the beach, close to The Entrance, and dog friendly. Budgewoi.......the permanents (a lot of them) tend to like to party, and there are not that many sites. Gloucester Caravan Park is really great and can have fires. Nelson Bay tends to be expensive. Mudgee is very good, vineyards, touring and markets usually.

;DWWe're be in on all those bar Canberra. I'd already contacted Mudgee Van park the one on the river to enquire if they had sites available for Dec 4 and 5, but April sounds good too. We love Mudgee so anytime is good for us. I can do the arranging for that run if you ALL AGREE! Not wanting to step on toes Jules

Go ahead and do it Bindilou.. ya might get 2 ya might get a dozen. Never know until ya try aye...
Something i forgot to mention.. That is ......Broke fair in September. I have been there with either the bikes or the van every year for the passed 6 years. You have seen the photos from the passed 2 years. I took "Rosie " out there last year and parked it and the Panelvan on one corner of our bike club site. we had about 20 bikes....... and the vintage van got all the attention.
Each year i get out there just after lunch on the saturday and set up. Some years when i have taken the bikes out we have a ride down from Broke to wollombi. about 20ks south. Have a couple of "Dr Jurds Jungle Juices" and wobble back to Broke.
Here is the good bit.. no camping fees and a small fire is permissible if there is no fire bans. Portaloos are set up on saturday and there is tap water if ya need it.
Sunday we get flooded with old cars, trucks, bikes, stationary engines, Military vehicles , etc, etc.
This event is an ideal venue to promote our hobby .. would be great to see 1/2 dozen vans rock up with classic towcars ( optional of course).
The crowds are massive and i am sure the vans would be well recieved.
So i guess what i am saying is .. free camping (Friday night too if ya wanna) all weekend. a campfire. get there early enough on saturday ( lunchtime) and do a cruise down to Dr Jurds. Back before dark .... party on saturday night...... Things sorta quieten down by about 2 ish.. so still plenty of time to pack up head home ( sydney and surrounds) and be tucked away in your shed by dark.
Just another option.

Spent a week-end with Wombat and Jeanette at Urunga Heads Caravan Park recently. A top area for a VV get together. Park management welcomed us with open arms and we left with an open invitation to return with as many VV as possible. A big camp kitchen comprising of 4 aluminium BBQ`s, fridges, stoves, microwave oven and wash up facilities. Powered and unpowered sites available. Close to shops, pub and eating joints. Situated at the junction of the Kalang and Bellinger rivers, a small inlet flows into a lake like waterway allowing for safe water activities. www.urungaheads.com.au is their web site.

If anyone is interested in a trip to the Windyer caravan park ( and pub) 38 klms from Mudgee in a gold fossicking village. The pub has meals and you can pan for gold (for your retirement!) in the creek.
