A perfect day yesterday to fly the Vintage Caravan flag.. so we took “Driftwood” and the FJ to the Tahmoor 2009 Community CareFlight Fair.
As Jennison has mentioned in his thread people come out of the wood work at these events to talk about their involvement in .. or knowledge of... the old time caravan industry.
One bloke I was talking to said that his father worked for Clim Jee building “Sunchaser” caravans in Ryde NSW. He thought...but was not sure.. that they bought Gypsy caravans out ??
The only time “Sunchaser” caravans have been mentioned on this forum was back in 2007 on this tread started by Franklin 1.
Another lady we were talking to was from New Zealand and her father built “Newman” caravans over there. I told her about the book “Vantastic”..the history of caravans in NZ although I haven't been able to find reference to “Newman” 'vans in the book.
As always we had a busy day running conducted tours through “Driftwood” …. and as always we won a small trophy.... and as always there was no Vintage Caravan competition.
Are any vintage vanners in the Sydney area interested in taking part in these type of events.... lets keep in touch.
Some photos of where some people put their money
I have always had a soft spot for light fifteens but the owner of this one said they don't tow very well..... this is the one that Ted Mack used after refusing to accept a government car..... you've not heard of Ted Mack ......... he is the politician who resigned from the NSW Parliament two days before becoming eligible for a $1 million superannuation payment
The RAAF gave tethered rides to the kids until the wind came up.
When I first arrived I was told to park so that the tail of “Driftwood” was just over a white line..... later I was advised to move forward about two foot..... just as well
And then toward the end of the day the RAAF Roulettes did their flyover
Thats Yvonne giving them instructions
