Hi VVers We are spending a couple of days in Lightning Ridge NSW (opal centre) and touring around the town and surrounding opal mining area and we are astounded at the number of 60's and'70's alum. vans in the bush located on 'mining claims'. Found one bondy, one Sunliner, and one Olympic Debonair, we were getting all excited thinking we would locate a swag of fibreglass vans, but not to be. Most of the vans are on unattended claims, and are in some cases ready for wrecking or for spare parts. The bondy owners claim was on our conducted tour list, so asked him what he was going to do with it as it was beyound retoration, "going to the dump next week". So I have been given the cupboard door handles which are early 60's vintage all in good order. Cheers boblor

Howdy boblor, We're probably only a week off hitting Lightning Ridge, so hope you leave some parts for us ...... The interesting thing about a lot of the old mining towns is the number of caravans (mainly big tri-axle Viscounts) that are sitting in people's yards or have lean-toos added so that they become permanent residences.........they were obviously dragged up to these places and used by their owners while they went off prospecting.
